ABOUT THE GIRLTREK MOVEMENT

GirlTREK is a grassroots, movement-building organization and is the largest and most inspiring non-profit organization for Black women’s health  in the nation. With a membership of 1.2 million members, and counting, a viral podcast called Black History Bootcamp with close to 2M downloads and a volunteer infrastructure that directly serves thousands of the nation’s Blackest neighborhoods – GirlTREK’s influence is unmatched.

Position Overview 2024-2025:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented State Coordinator to provide essential support and Administrative assistance to the Vice President of Organizing who directs organizing across Mississippi and Louisiana and manages the entire southern strategy and team. In this multifaceted role, you will play a pivotal part in the organization, support, and empowerment of local trekkers, organizers, and volunteers, shaping and implementing an innovative health justice initiative spanning across multiple states, with a focus on enriching the lives of Black women through holistic health practices, empowerment, and advocacy. The State Coordinator role will be instrumental in fostering community engagement, advocating for health justice, and ensuring the smooth operation of our regional initiatives. Preference will be given to candidates from Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as executive assistant to the VP of Organizing in the planning and coordination of recruitment events, including health fairs, expos, and community engagement activities, and community outreach activities.
  • Manage scheduling and logistics for events, including parades, races, and health-related activities.
  • Coordinate administrative tasks, including scheduling, document preparation, and maintaining organized filing systems. 
  • Prepare and distribute event-related materials and resources.
  • Provide administrative support in organizing welcome walks, meet & greets, team kick-off events, and victory celebrations.
  • Create and distribute newsletters/emails, updates, and communications to keep the volunteers and southern impact team informed and engaged.
  • Maintain records of challenge information, resources, and supplies for county coaches and crew leaders.
  • Directly serve and provide woman-power and leadership for the expansion of GirlTREK's footprint across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of faith-based initiatives that empower church communities to prioritize health and community well-being.
  • Assist in training State Directors and volunteers to mobilize members in advocating for equitable health policies and systemic change.
  • Assist in monitoring and analyzing the effectiveness of wellness programs and initiatives implemented in the Southern Region.
  • Provide support in generating regular reports on program outcomes, participant engagement, and regional expansion progress.
  • Support GirlTREK's larger national mission, values, and health justice agenda.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (public health, social sciences, community development, etc.). 
  • Proven experience as an Administrative Assistant or in a similar role, preferably within health and wellness advocacy, demonstrating strong organizational and  multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency in office software (e.g., Google Suite) and the ability to quickly adapt to new tools and technologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders.
  • Strong commitment to personal health and well-being, with an understanding and appreciation of the mission of GirlTREK.
  • Passion for walking, community engagement, and improving the health of communities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teams, meet deadlines, and contribute to the achievement of common goals.
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including early mornings, nights, and weekends, as needed.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the Southern Region with significant travel between Mississippi, Eastern Louisiana, and Montgomery, Alabama (50%).
  • Adaptability to evolving community needs and organizational goals.

  • Off-Season: Competitive 6 weeks off for paid office closure, Dec 1-Jan 15 annually.
  • Retirement Plan: GirlTREK matches contributions to 401K accounts up to 4%. 

Compensation: Each role is benchmarked using national data and considers compensatory factors such as the expectations of the role and the required qualifications for the role. The candidate’s final compensation package is determined once the interview is concluded and accounts for the compensatory factors listed above, in addition to experience, competencies, physical location and GirlTREK’s annual winter sabbatical. The salary range for this role is $50,000 - $55,000.
