STAFF ATTORNEY - ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT UNIT
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI
The Economic Development Unit of Legal Aid of Western Missouri is seeking a full-time attorney in one of its satellite offices in Kansas City, Missouri. The attorney will work as the dedicated project attorney for a neighborhood association and community development corporation in Kansas City, Missouri, on targeted community improvement initiatives. This position will focus heavily on real estate transactions, civil land-use litigation, and affordable housing development, with the target outcome being blight remediation, affordable housing preservation, and community re-investment. General responsibilities include community outreach, conducting interviews with client leadership and Board of Directors; drafting advice letters, demand letters, court pleadings, and other legal documents; and litigation pending civil land use actions in Circuit Court. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
The qualified candidate must have the following:
- Active Missouri Bar license or eligible for licensure in Missouri through reciprocity
- Computer proficiency
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Desire and commitment to assist in the delivery of high-quality legal assistance
- Ability to speak a second language, preferred, but not required
- Courtroom experience, preferred
- Experience handling community development cases is preferred, but not required
Salary: $60,000 + DOE
