About the Job:We are seeking an experienced business law attorney to work with clients on a contract basis. This a great opportunity for an attorney who has prior General Counsel experience and is interested in working with a wide variety of small and medium sized businesses. Attorneys with expertise in transactional, tax, estate planning, intellectual property, and real estate law are encouraged to apply. This may be an extended term engagement with the possibility of full-time / permanent. The position would be based out of Kansas City or St. Louis with remote considered.
Professional Requirements for the General Counsel Attorneys:
- Client-minded and service-oriented
- Experience completing matters in a law firm environment efficiently and independently with excellence from intake to close
- 2+ years as a business or transactional law attorney at a corporate law firm or large corporate legal department
- Experience assessing statutory compliance, interpreting and applying the law, and developing legal protection plans for business clients
- Excellent written and verbal communication and listening skills; proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, for a diverse range of internal and external audiences
- Dependable and organized, with demonstrated professionalism and awareness of time-sensitive issues, attention to detail and a strong work ethic
- Strong academic credentials from an accredited law school
- The ability to provide at least two references upon request
- Licensed to practice law and in good-standing
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Access to a laptop and high-speed internet
- Missouri bar membership; additional licensure a plus
Responsibilities of a Successful SEED Law General Counsel Attorney:
- Provide excellent lawyering through client counseling, contract drafting and negotiation, research, and strategy
- Educate clients about legal rights and obligations and suggesting courses of action in business and corporate matters
- Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations; make recommendations to management on how to respond to legal issues or proposed changes in laws and regulations
- Draft and prepare documents and correspondence in a client-ready form and effectively present information to clients and senior management
- Respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies, clients, and community members in a timely manner
- Ongoing business development and lead cultivation
- Provide exemplary client interaction through written and verbal communication and listening skills
- Provide litigation support or leadership when needed
- Special projects as assigned
