The general hourly range for this position is $25.00-$29.00. Salary offers will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, training and education.
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s most effective animal protection organization, is seeking two Staff Accountants, International Accounts Payable Specialist for the Accounting Department. In this position you prepare and process invoices and payments for Accounts Payable as part of the international Accounting department. Maintains and reconciles invoices, vendor profiles, and other records.
You will be responsible for:
- Processing purchase orders and invoices for the International Accounts Payable team. Accuracy of general ledger coding and submission to budget managers for approval prior to payment;
- Reviewing and reconciling receipts and invoices, including comparing against contract terms, banking information, vendor profiles, and expense account coding;
- Preparing journal entries to allocate various expenditures for Humane Society International (HSI) and affiliated organizations;
- Processing and issuing payments for the organization and affiliates via electronic funds transfer, ensuring accuracy of payment, terms, required approvals, and general ledger coding. Initiating payments in regional bank accounts and post to general ledger, as needed;
- Maintaining vendor file system, setting up and updating vendor profiles. Retaining and uploading documentation including tax forms, banking forms, contracts, grants to ensure compliance and accurate payment information;
- Maintaining a list of managers who can approve invoices and officers and who can review and approve payments;
- Monitoring recurring transactions, including Diners Club, on a monthly basis;
- Assisting with annual financial audits for the organization, and other special projects, retrieving historical invoice and proof of payment information and submitting to the Manager, Accounts Payable for review;
- Responding to internal and external inquiries concerning international Accounts Payable;
- Performing other duties or responsibilities, as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience required;
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in Accounts Payable required;
- Experience with international bank accounts and currencies preferred;
- Prior experience in an Accounting department using an ERP accounting software required;
- Strong math skills are required;
- Strong knowledge of basic accounting procedures;
- Proficiency of Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook);
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;
- Strong interpersonal skills are necessary;
- Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.
