Location/Division Specific Information

Unity Lab Services provides a single source for coordinated lab service, support and supply management. Our customized service offerings and outstanding service guides have the flexibility and experience to uniquely address our customer’s laboratory's business needs. This position is located in Cambridge, MA.

How will you make an impact?

The position is focused primarily on scientific support services: operating customer systems, material handling, shipping/receiving, chemical tracking, and other support services.

What will you do?

  • Overall management of loading dock(s):

  • Receiving deliveries, including pallets and delivering to end users or specified locations.

  • Chemical tracking as required by companies.

  • Shipping items as requested by end users.

  • Delivering dry ice, Gas/LN2 Tanks, etc. to specified locations.

  • Capture and maintain site specific metrics.

  • Operates various Thermo Fisher Scientifics’ handheld devices that include: mobile phone for package tracking application & barcode scanner for chemical tracking.

  • Follows well defined procedures as outlined by Best Practices, SOP’s & work instructions. Take direction from Dock Lead, Team Lead and/or Supervisor regarding daily duties.

  • Makes decisions and applies available resources to meet customer requirements, independently.

  • Analyzes/maintains/reconciles various customer and company reports.

  • Communicates with management any customer issues and/or potential problems.

  • Promotes personal growth and development by staying abreast of new policies and improvements without the presence of site trainer and management team.

  • Listens to customer concerns, effectively diffuses dissatisfaction, and quickly identifies course of action with a goal of first call resolution within established turnaround times.

  • Works efficiently with a diverse cross-functional team.

  • Accepts Practical Process Improvement (PPI) methodologies.

  • Access & use Thermo Fisher Scientifics’ Intranet and SharePoint document management system.

  • Represents Thermo Fisher Scientific throughout customer locations, professionally and positively.

  • Complete projects as assigned by management.

How will you get here?

Requires a High School Diploma or GED. College degree preferred, but not required.

Experience:

  • Experience in laboratory setting or services preferred

  • 2+ years of shipping & receiving experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Shown customer service skills

  • Detail oriented, problem solver, promotes team engagement.

  • Computer/software skills (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Shown verbal, written and presentation skills

  • Able to read, write and speak English fluently.

  • Displays a high level of confidentiality for both customer and Fisher.

  • Must maintain Thermo Fisher Scientifics’ Four-I Values

  • Must possess a strong desire to serve the customer, and the interpersonal abilities to deal with various levels of personnel at the customer site.

  • Possess strong interpersonal ability to deliver excellent customer service including maintaining a professional appearance at all times.

  • Possess the operating skills to use hand held scanners and learn to enter data in various systems.

  • Must possess strong analytical skills to reconcile various reports to ensure customer requirements are met.

  • Possess the ability to multi-task and meet due dates as needed.

  • Ability to use a computer and possess intermediate skills in Microsoft Office suite of software.

  • Works primarily at customer locations, in office environment to include cubicles and/or in and around shipping/receiving docks, stock rooms, storage locations and laboratory environments. May be required to work independently at customer location.

  • Routine extensive walking.

  • May pass through areas where chemical based allergens may be in use (such as penicillin, tetracycline, etc)

  • Able to lift, push and pull 30-40 pounds consistently; may be required to lift 50 lbs.

  • Able to use material handling equipment such as push carts and pallet jacks.

  • Depending on area of building, personal protective equipment may be worn to include lab coats, coveralls, hood, facemask, hairnets, safety gloves, and safety glasses.

  • Some areas require steel toe shoes, bump hats and/or safety glasses

  • Able to work overtime as required.
