Your role: The Internal Communications Senior Manager develops the strategic direction and implementation of employee communications for the company. In addition, this role oversees the design, development, and execution of the CEO’s communication strategy.

Your work:

  • Establishes and drive the CEO's overall Internal Communications strategy that supports the company’s business strategy, goals and core beliefs.

  • Creates communications on behalf of the CEO, including messaging for all-employee meetings, organization announcements, videos, presentations, etc.

  • Develops and maintains thorough understanding of the company’s overall business plan, key business drivers and stakeholders, and new and ongoing initiatives.

  • Partners closely with company and lines of business leadership to remain current on challenges and opportunities affecting the company and its employees.

  • Makes recommendations on how to best frame, inspire and position key issues using creative, strategic communication approaches and vehicles.

  • Develops plans focused on increasing employee engagement through the strategic communication of business strategy, priorities, and vision.

  • Provides a variety of writing support, including executive communications such as talking points, organizational announcements, and correspondence to employees.

  • Ensures our communications help drive and reinforce our company culture.

  • Provides strategic/content oversight for communication events and all-employee meetings.

  • Regularly assesses effectiveness of communications programs and makes adjustments as needed.

  • Serves as communications partner to Strategy & Innovation division.

  • Creates, proposes and executes a comprehensive strategic plan to engage employees in company strategy every year, working closely with the CEO and Strategy & Innovation leaders. Monitors and adjusts as needed.

  • Leads CEO catastrophe communications to Board of Directors.

  • Serves as key strategic advisor on company intranet (Voyage), including identifying issues, challenges and opportunities and helping to drive resolutions. Convenes and coordinates site owner/admin group with the aim of strong engagement and continuous improvement.

  • Strategically leads employee communications measurement approach and execution.

  • Serves as a member of the cross-functional issues/crisis core team, recommending internal and external communications approaches to senior leaders in response to internal and/or external issues, threats, and risks.

  • Acts as back-up to director, Employee Communications and Enterprise Change Management.

  • Regularly creates and posts pages and articles in Company Intranet site?

  • Manages Employee Communications budget.

  • Serves as core team member for planning and executing leadership channels, including Leadership Conference, Checkpoint and Forums.

  • Leads and manages a team of direct reports. Drives performance within assigned team by setting goals, creating development plans, conducting periodic reviews, providing feedback and taking actions based on performance.

Required Experience, Education and Skills

  • 12+ years of professional communication experience in medium to large-sized company or agency

  • 8+ years in a senior leadership role with experience managing a team of direct reports and working at the highest levels of an organization including presenting and interfacing with executive leadership teams.

  • BA/BS in Journalism, Communication, English or a related field or equivalent experience

  • IABC accreditation or similar professional certification

  • Experience as a strategic, hands-on business leader with a passion for influencing peers and senior leadership to execute communication and change initiatives that result in sustainable, positive impact on the business.

  • Must be a dynamic leader able to capture the hearts and minds of the team while inspiring a fun, creative and innovative culture.

  • Ability to deal with people at all levels in the organization

  • Anticipates potential consequences of communication and trends accurately

  • Can maneuver through complex political situations effectively

  • Understands corporate politics and is sensitive to how people and organizations function

  • Ability to think outside the communication function and apply the same standards of judgment to other business plans

  • Awareness of how the media and political worlds work and the implications to policyholder communication

  • Demonstrates ethical business and communications philosophy and practice

CSAA-IG has a location-based compensation structure. Our salary ranges vary and are calculated based on county of residence. Candidates for this position should reside in the general vicinity of our Walnut Creek office. Salary compensation for this position in Walnut Creek ranges from $181,000 - $202,000. This role also includes an opportunity for a company-wide annual discretionary bonus, through our Annual Incentive Plan (AIP), of up to 18% of eligible pay.

Must have authorization to work indefinitely in the US.
