The Senior Network Administrator's role is to ensure the stable operation of the in-house computer networks. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication components. The person will also analyze and resolve network problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide outputs and communications to end users where required.
Major Position Responsibilities
- Analyzes moderately complex local and wide area network systems, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting operating systems and protocol suites, and configuring communication media with concentrators, bridges and other devices.
- Resolves interoperability problems to obtain operations across all enterprise network-connected platforms including email, files transfer, multimedia, teleconferencing, etc.
- Supports evaluation and acquisition of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services as needed.
- Manages the usage and performance of voice, video and/or data communications networks.
- Maintains network security and ensures compliance in accordance with security policies and procedures.
- Provides extensive support to applications, systems, and desktop technology teams to ensure optimal performance of all enterprise solutions.
- Participates in and may lead aspects of major network installations and upgrades.
- Develops and implements testing strategies and documents results.
- Research technical reference materials for network hardware and software to determine root cause of problems.
- Interfaces with vendors to ensure appropriate resolution during network outages or periods of reduced performance.
- Records activities and resolution data within the enterprise ITSM platform.
- Maintains documentation to record new equipment installed, new sites, and changes to network configurations.
- Inspects communications wires and cables.
- May trains other staff members and users to build knowledgebase within the team.
- May coordinate installations of communications lines.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology.
- 5-7 years related experience and/or training; or equalivalent combination of education or experience.
- Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices preferred.
- Experience with common networking systems, including Cisco routing, switching and VOIP, as well as Palo Alto Firewalls, Riverbed Steelhead, SolarWinds, and other network technologies preferred.
- Working technical knowledge of current network protocols and standards, including TCP/IP, routing protocols, DNS, NTP, etc.
- Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.
- Master's Degree in Information Technology preferred.
- CompTIA Network+, Security+, Cisco CCNA/CCDA preferred
