The Role:

 

The Business Development Manager is responsible for maximizing group revenue and profitability through the sale of guest rooms, catering and activities.  Reporting to the Director of Sales, this position will be responsible for achieving and exceeding goals in all SCICO hospitality market segments, including SMERF, Tour & Travel and Corporate.  He or she will assist with the development and implementation of resort sales and marketing strategies.  Through effective relationship building and account management they will deliver the highest levels of guest service and will ensure ongoing client satisfaction.   

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Spends a majority of time in the field soliciting potential Group Sales opportunities in Southern California.
  • Conducts daily direct sales calls that are prearranged, social and cold-calling.
  • Presents a professional demeanor at all times as an executive representative of SCICO. 
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key clients and establishes a client base of meeting planners, organizations, associations, and corporate businesses through continues direct sales efforts.
  • Grows existing accounts and generates new business in assigned geographic or vertical region to ensure that group revenues meet or exceed budget.
  • Negotiates guest room rates, meeting room rental, function space, group Activities & Tours, and venue rental and resort services within approved booking guidelines and continuously confirms all client requirements in writing.  
  • Responds promptly (within 24 hours) to guest requests and inquiries and follows up to ensure utmost guest satisfaction.
  • Upon closing of contracts, coordinates with Event Managers and other operational departments to ensure appropriate service delivery and that all client requirements are met.
  • Monitors goal production and controls expenditures to meet budgeted departmental financial guidelines.
  • Coordinates with other sales team members in evaluating, soliciting, selling and in confirming profitable business.
  • Prepares monthly production summaries and activity reports and communicates overall market trends to VP of Sales & Marketing and Director of Resort Sales as needed.
  • Represents the company at conventions, events and trade shows as warranted by assigned region.
  • Coordinates and conducts site inspections of property for key clients.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of progressive hospitality industry Group Sales experience
  • Presents a professional demeanor at all times as an executive representative of SCICO. 
  • Possesses thorough knowledge of property to skillfully articulate and present to clients.
  • Has proficient computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.  Able to perform a power point sales presentation.
  • Ability to travel frequently to designated territories.
  • Possesses working knowledge of OPERA and/or other sales-related software programs.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language with strong contract negotiation skills and proven track record for effectively closing group business. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with an emphasis on Sales and Marketing

 

Job Expectations regarding Scheduling:

  • This position requires a flexible schedule with shifts that consists of a rotating schedule of weekday and weekend shifts, including day, night, and holiday work hours. 
  • 25-50% travel to and from Catalina Island
