Under the guidance of the Sr. Director of Corporate Compliance & Privacy (or designee), the Senior Compliance Specialist is an independent self-directed individual who coordinates all aspects of the Corporate Compliance program consistent with Office of Inspector General for HHS (OIG), Health Care Compliance Association, and the Department of Justice (DOJ) guidance for compliance programs. The Senior Compliance Specialist will implement system-wide programs to ensure compliance, performs risk assessments, researches and resolves compliance and privacy related issues, develops training materials and monitoring tools, reviews and revises system-wide policies and procedures.
The Senior Compliance Specialist will have a primary focus on privacy within the organization, primarily HIPAA, patient notification breaches, and privacy rules. The Senior Compliance Specialist serves as a departmental representative by promoting and implementing required compliance program elements for specific departments and/or service lines, performs compliance reviews, communicates with internal and external customers, organizes and maintains logs of monitored program elements including compliance/privacy calls, government inquiries, and training. The Senior Compliance Specialist will take the lead on various compliance/privacy related projects and research compliance related federal and state laws and regulations and apply them to the TGH environment. The Senior Compliance Specialist must rely upon experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare, legal, or accounting/finance discipline with associated license/certification (e.g. RN, CPA, Paralegal)
- Required Certifications at time of hire or within 18 months: Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Certification in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC), or Certification in Healthcare Research (CHRC).
- 5 years in a healthcare, accounting/finance, or legal (preferred emphasis in healthcare law) setting; 3 years with healthcare compliance and/or privacy.
- HIPAA proficiency, patient notification breaches, and security/privacy rules experience required.
