About the role:
The Laboratory Supervisor will be responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and overseeing all activities related to running an in-house blend plant laboratory.
Responsibilities
About you:
  • Actively oversee laboratory quality assurance testing in support of a lubricant blend plant and package activities.
  • Provide quality control testing and other quality control activities in support of a lubricant blend plant and package activities.
  • Ensure all incoming blending components and outgoing finished products meet specified quality parameters.
  • Provide troubleshooting support when incoming or finished lubricant blend products require formulation or product correction.
  • Ability to understand product formulations
  • Ability to perform blend calculations, mass to volume calculations, and create laboratory hand blends.
  • Record test results relevant to production activity. Responsible for ensuring maintenance of data records as instructed.
  • Oversee and direct laboratory staff in daily activities and duties.
  • Work closely and in a positive manner with other production departments, staff and management located within the blend plant facility.
  • Act as primary representative between the QA laboratory and other departments and management within the blend plant facility.
  • Ensure Quality Systems are adhered to in performance, review, and reporting of laboratory duties and communicate all quality issues.
  • Support Quality Department and Continuous Improvement Processes.
  • Perform routine daily and/or weekly verification(s) and/or calibration(s) on equipment and instrumentation following method quality requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain local calibration and/or verification schedules and records for critical instrumentation and/or equipment.
  • Perform non-routine in-house calibration of equipment and/or instrumentation according to quality schedule.
  • Evaluate raw data to ensure precision, accuracy, and quality requirements are met.
  • Troubleshoot validation and/or calibration equipment and instrumentation issues. Troubleshoot and/or repair equipment and instrumentation as required.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and/or instrumentation as required by the method. The minimum level required to perform preventative maintenance on some equipment and/or instrumentation will vary depending on the complexity of the task, safety risk level and quality risk level.
  • Ensure third party calibrations/verifications are performed by approved vendors.
  • Perform calculations as required when conducting analytical preparations.
  • Prepare and maintain standards and reagents
  • Monitor inventory levels for supplies and reagents required for test methods.
  • Provide staff training as required for in-house calibration and/or verifications procedures.
  • Perform housekeeping duties as required. This includes assisting with sample retain storage and disposal
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ensure that all tasks are performed within time restraints and according to relevant quality and safety policies and procedures
  • Follow all company operating procedures, standards, policies, and training to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the site.
  • Play leadership role in the ALS safety program by correcting or reporting unsafe acts and conditions that are observed during day to day operations to create a zero-injury work environment.
  • Participate in and support HSE initiatives, as required by ALS leadership.
  • Conduct training and mentoring for laboratory staff.
  • Lead and attend internal operations, quality, and safety meetings as required, as appropriate.
  • Understand and use HSE precautions (such as but not limited to fume hoods and PPE) while working with chemicals and samples of unknown hazard.
  • Ensure the health and safety of staff, contractors, and/or visitors by providing appropriate leadership, due diligence, resources, training, and enforcement for all individuals onsite.
  • As a supervisor commit to improving the ALS experience through effective communication.
  • Flexibility to adjust working hours to meet production and incoming product schedules
  • Manage and adjust working hours of supervised staff as required.
  • Perform annual performance reviews of supervised staff
  • Relevant bachelor degree is required. (Equivalent 2 years' experience)
  • 1 - 3 years of experience with instrumentation used for oil analysis preferred.
  • Laboratory quality assurance/control experience
  • Ability to develop and set-up analytical methods for testing.
  • Laboratory experience is required.
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office and Office 365.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good team building skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.

Physical Demands:
  • Routinely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move heavier loads with assistance.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, push, pull, stoop and crouch up to 50% of the time while performing the duties of this position.
