Software Engineering Principal

Provide technical leadership across multiple domains and/or value streams. Serve as an expert resource to advise other teams and recommend solutions to technical design problems. Ensures application of systems thinking principles, allowing team members to independently design, code, test,and deploy software. Provide the necessary documentation to support the Software Development Life Cycle. Develop prototypes and solutions leveraging a diverse range of technology. Advise in the application of modern architectures, principles, methodologies, tools, and systemic processes to support the launch of new business capabilities. Lead the resolution of highly complex problems. Mentor development of those in less senior positions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, in computer science, engineering, information systems or related field and/or equivalent formal training or work experience. Requires five (5) years equivalent work experience in information technology or engineering environment. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirements.

Exciting opportunity in the FedEx IT Global Surface Operational Solutions Team for an experienced Software Engineer with a strong passion for modern testing practices supporting cloud native development. This technical leader will work hands-on with development teams to adopt modern testing practices including: TDD, BDD, ephemeral environments, infrastructure as code, contract-based development and testing, service virtualization, team ownership of quality, chaos engineering, etc.
Skills Considered a Plus:

• Strong proficiency in Java developing cloud native applications.
• Understanding of software development lifecycles.
• Ability to work both independently and on a team.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information in a condensed manner to various stakeholders verbally and in writing.
• Growth mindset and a willingness to learn new skills, technologies, and frameworks.
• Experience with agile development methodologies.
• Experience in building APIs for both internal and external products.
• Working knowledge of DevSecOps and CI/CD principles and practices.
• Use excellent problem solving and analytical skills to lead the resolution of highly complex problems
• Advise in the application of modern testing architectures, principles, methodologies, tools, and systemic processes across the organization

Experience Considered a Plus:

• Experience pair programming with intent to teach other engineers.
• Experience with development platforms (e.g. Azure, Docker, Kubernetes)
• Ability to assess application architectures to understand validation points and places to separate dependent applications.
• Knowledge with Test automation tools including SmartBear ReadyAPI, Delphix, Micro Focus UFT Mobile and UFT Developer, WireMock, Apache Jmeter, along with ability to keep up with the industry standards for modern testing tools and platforms. Includes developing plug-ins and shared services to supplement tools when necessary.
• Presentation skills and experience teaching large classes remotely and in person including both lecture and hands-on materials and developing educational materials. Experience advancing organizations with testing in isolation, service virtualization, and contract testing.

Desired location for this position would be Pittsburgh, PA and Collierville, TN however, this position may be located anywhere within the United States.

Salary Range Estimate: Monthly Salary: $9,145.00 - $16,284.00. This compensation range is provided as a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary range for this role.
