What You'll Do:

The Software Engineer Intern is responsible for building the tools that power our freight platform. The ideal candidate should have a passion for tackling hard problems and will play a pivotal role in shaping the definition, design, and development of the systems at U.S. Xpress. This is a key position to expand the functionality and usability of the Broker OS, the focus user group for product is Carrier Facing Operations staff (Carrier Sales Reps), Shipper sales (inside sales) and shipper facing operations (CXR).

  • Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain innovative software solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security
  • Assist with the development lifecycle with a focus on developing new features and functionalities for assigned software applications
  • Use Software Engineering best practices to ensure a high standard of quality for all the team deliverables
  • Write high quality distributed system software
  • Work in an agile development environment, where you are always working on the most important projects.
  • Bring visibility to USX trailer utilization to improve driver experience and reduce driver turnover
  • Assist in increasing the Brokerage Operational efficiency which increases the asset's freight selectivity which yields rate improvement for both segments (OTR & XT) and better asset utilization

What We're Looking For:

Education

  • High School Diploma
  • Ideal candidate is currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

Experience

  • Experience developing software services and an understanding of design for scalability, performance, and reliability
  • Experience with a variety of modern programming languages (Java, Python, Javascript or C#)
  • Experience in the job offered or a related occupation must involve: designing and developing large-scale, distributed software applications, tools, systems and services using Java, Javascript, Python or C#

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies
  • Excellence in communicating with team members
  • Knowledge of professional Software Engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle
