Summary
Maranatha Christian Academy is an influential school of collaborators, innovators, and explorers grounded in Christian faith, and empowering co-creators of tomorrow. The head coach will build a program with a solid foundation that teaches student-athletes technical and tactical skills along with other valuable life skills through competition.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Develop a summer camp and summer training program that you will oversee.
- Develop a spiritual development plan for the season.
- Hire and train assistant coaches. Involve them in planning and decision making. Assign responsibilities.
- Meet with middle school coaches regularly and develop them as coaches.
- Complete all MSHSL and MSCHSA coach requirements.
- Connect with coaches from other schools and build your competition schedule.
- Keep inventory and a detailed list of equipment. Meet with athletic director to order new equipment.
- Communicate sport specific website updates to the athletic department.
- Schedule and direct a pre-season interest meeting for families.
- Attending a pre-season meeting with the athletic director.
- Organize a community outreach team activity.
- Plan special event nights such as youth night, parent night, senior night, teacher appreciation, etc.
- Plan a varsity team retreat and team building day.
- Meet with the strength coach to make a strength and conditioning plan for the season.
- Send information needed for the media guide to the athletic department.
- Develop a program-wide, middle school and high school, practice schedule.
- Train athletes in a productive way that fits within the scope of the philosophy of Mustang Athletics.
- Develop a youth program.
- Develop a detailed plan for tryouts and practices.
- Input game schedules and update scores and stats on required sites.
- Communicate regularly with families through email, GroupMe, and in-person communication.
- Work with athletes on setting and reaching their individual and team goals.
- Connect regularly with athletes about their role and skill development.
- Name and meet with captains regularly to develop them as leaders.
- Film home/away games and schedule time to meet with the team to watch film if it is available.
- Conduct post-season evals of assistant coaches.
- Submit end of season report to the athletic director.
- Attend a post-season meeting with the athletic director.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Manage high school and middle school assistant coaches. Communicate with coaches and develop them in a way that fits the culture of the program. Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures as outlined in the MCA Coaches' Handbook. Responsibilities include training coaches; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance with a post-season eval on assistants; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
