Shipping Supervisor Job Description
Essential Job Functions
- Plan work schedules and assign duties to maintain adequate staff for effective performance of activities and response to fluctuating workloads.
- Collaborate with workers and managers to solve work-related problems.
- Review work throughout the work process and at completion to ensure that is has been performed properly.
- Develop schedules of in-bound/out-bound carriers and supporting raw material/finished good product flow.
- Supervise receiving team and ensure goods are being received according to Receiving SOP.
- Quote small parcel, LTL, and TL shipments and route freight according to customer specifications.
- Examine freight to determine loading sequences.
- Ensure specifications of materials loaded or unloaded meet order and specification requirements.
- Monitor carrier on time performance metrics and performance to standard.
- Inspect equipment for wear and for conformance to OSHA standards.
- Manage raw material and finished good cycle count schedules and report variances.
- Inventory supplies and purchase additional items as needed.
- Facilitate a 5S environment and organizational philosophy.
- Evaluate employee performance and prepare performance appraisals.
- Other responsibilities as directed by senior leadership team.
Core Knowledge and Experience Requirements
- Administration and Management – Business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, situational leadership, and coordination of people and resources.
- Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Transportation — Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits.
- Production and Processing – Raw materials, production processes, quality systems, cost management systems, and techniques for safe and efficient manufacture of goods.
- Education and Training – Principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
- Must have 3 years prior supervisory or managerial experience within a production environment
Experience
Preferred- Three years prior experience in shipping and receiving in a supervisory capacity for a Manufacturing Co.
Education
Preferred- Bachelors or better
- Associates or better in Business Administration or related field
