Job Description
The main purpose of the position is to ensure that the materials are dispatched while meeting shipping schedules and to ensure that incoming and outgoing shipping activities are performed accurately, completely, properly and with high productivity. This is accomplished by determining appropriate shipping methods for each work assignment in a cost-effective manner.
The position significantly contributes to the overall shipping and receiving function of Shoals Technologies. If the materials are not received or shipped correctly, it will have a significant impact on Shoals in terms of material damage, back charges, loss of customers, etc.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
The responsibilities and accountabilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:
Operational:
Knowledge of, and staying current with, rules and regulations on domestic and international shipments (INCO)
Responsible for establishing and maintaining shipping schedule of plant location(s)
Coordinate with Warehouse, Project Management, Scheduling, and Sales on timely shipping of finished goods
Responsible for identifying, vetting, and maintaining relationships with current and new vendors and brokerage companies
Responsible for bidding process with vendors and brokerage companies
Assist with determining shipping priorities/schedule, work assignments and shipping routes, methods and arrange shipping; prepare bills of lading, export docs, manifests, etc. and provide ongoing support as needed.
Assist and support the day-to-day warehouse activities.
Distribute and manage workload for employees ensuring work is completed throughout the day.
Ensure a safe work environment while maintaining safety standards.
Maintain proper traffic throughout the area ensuring customers are loaded in a safe and timely manner.
Ensure paperwork and shipping documents are processed accurately through the Microsoft Dynamics GP system.
Determine space requirements and position of shipment in trucks and trailers.
Coordinate with various carriers, negotiate and compare before placing orders.
Prepare shipping freight forwarding requests for quotes and analyze freight forwarder rates and air or ocean carrier routings to award and manage U.S. and foreign shipments.
Assist and support with loading and unloading of materials from truck or other conveyances.
Inspect and verify incoming goods against invoices or other documents, record shortages and reject damaged goods. Give feedback to purchasers. Route goods to appropriate storage areas.
Ensure compliance with loading specifications and customer requirements.
Liaise with Project Management department to ensure delivery requirements are met.
The building and scheduling of inter-company finished goods shipments as well as the communication of that information to the receiving party.
Able to work shifts schedules to accommodate work demands as required.
Develop an internal structure within the shipping department; develop, coach and mentor employees.
Promote teamwork within and across the departments.
Participate in the selection process and recommend actions such as hiring.
Maintain working knowledge of all Health and Safety policies.
Correct and communicate on any unsafe acts/conditions to supervisor/safety manager.
Support and promote all aspects of the corporate Health and Safety programs.
Report all accidents/incidents promptly, conduct investigation & act on recommendations.
Comply with all Shoals safety programs, confidentiality, and legal requirements.
- 3+ years of recent and relevant work experience in a warehouse, shipping department, or freight forwarder.
