Under general direction, is responsible for performing a full range of systems administration activities for large and/or complex operating systems that include planning, system and hardware design, configuration, implementation, and management of enterprise server systems; performs other duties as required.

Designs, modifies, configures, installs, and maintains complex operating systems software and hardware such as those associated with physical or virtual servers, enterprise storage solutions (e.g., EMC Storage), or domain controller servers (e.g. Active Directory);
Researches, evaluates and recommends hardware and software infrastructure systems and/or components to meet technical requirements and enhance operating systems; coordinates testing and implementation of new hardware and software;
Analyzes, diagnoses, and provides technical expertise for complex problems related to infrastructure operating systems and/or enterprise storage solutions; proposes, initiates, and implements appropriate solutions; closes help desk tickets as maintenance work is completed and/or problems are resolved;
Performs data and access protection processes, security and administration functions, and performance monitoring;
Manages the activities of systems administration personnel responsible for various operating systems; assigns personnel to various tasks and projects, directs their activities, provides coaching and training to increase technical knowledge, and evaluates their work;
Assists in developing standards, policies, and procedures for systems administration; assists in developing operating budget;
Writes and/or reviews system documentation, program specifications, production procedures, and other documentation that may include user manuals and instructions; maintains accurate documentation and administrative information for infrastructureoperating systems;
Develops plans and specifications for growth of systems; ensures long-term requirements of systems operations and administration are included in the overall information systems planning of the organization;
Works with information technology security personnel to develop policies and procedures to increase and/or enhance operating systems security;
Participates in citywide information technology projects; participates in professional activities to remain knowledgeable regarding developments in the field of systems administration.
Possession of a bachelor's degree and four (4) years of experience in computer applications, systems administration, or systems analysis. Substitution(s): Possession of an associate's degree and an additional two (2) years of experience as listed above, or valid certification as a Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate: Windows Server, HP-UX CSA (Hewlett Packard Unix Certified Systems Administrator) or comparable certification and an additional two (2) years of experience as listed above, or an additional four (4) years of experience as listed above may be substituted for the bachelor's degree.
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
