Position Summary
This opportunity is with the Cohen Lab in the Department of Genetics. We are hiring now for an individual interested in helping on projects related to basic mechanisms of gene regulation and the effects of genetic variation on gene expression.
We are looking for a motivated, independent, and collegial individual. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree or higher in a scientific field with molecular biology experience, and a proven ability to perform in a laboratory environment. The job will primarily entail cell culture, standard molecular biology (PCR, cloning, plasmid preparation, etc.), as well as some advanced molecular methods such as library preparation for Illumina sequencing and massively parallel reporter assays. Experience with a subset of these skills is highly preferred, but we will provide training in some of these methods to otherwise qualified applicants.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Performs complex analysis/projects according to research protocols, explaining methods and procedures to other technicians.
  • Enters data and maintains current data files on research projects. Monitors data to ensure consistent quality.
  • May perform preliminary statistical analysis of data.
  • Assures compliance with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assists in the training and development of technicians, acting as a group leader.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
Laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.
  • Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
  • Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree with 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting or equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 7 years.

R08-H
Salary Range
$18.40 - $31.31 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
