Position Summary
The Kulkarni lab is an NIH-funded laboratory in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Washington University. We are seeking a Senior Research Technician to investigate how innate immune responses, such as the complement system, modulate our immune responses to infection and injury. We have active projects investigating lung injury due to bacterial infections (such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa), and mucosal responses in response to microbial perturbations. We utilize state-of-the-art technical modalities including mouse models, human tissue, flow cytometry, ELISA, protein and DNA-based molecular biology, biochemistry, cell/tissue culture, fluorescence and confocal microscopy, and DNA/RNA sequencing. The technician will be responsible for both conducting experiments, including animal experiments, and developing and executing the plans in the laboratory, in partnership with the principal investigator. Taking ownership, having good organizational skills, interest in training students, and willingness to work together with others in a group is encouraged.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Performs complex analysis/projects according to research protocols, explaining methods and procedures to other technicians.
  • Enters data and maintains current data files on research projects. Monitors data to ensure consistent quality.
  • May perform preliminary statistical analysis of data.
  • Assures compliance with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assists in the training and development of technicians, acting as a group leader.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
Laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.
  • Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
  • Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree with 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting or equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 7 years.

R08-H
Salary Range
$18.40 - $31.31 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
