Acara Solutions is looking for a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer with Injection Molding Experience for one of our medical device clients in Burlingame, CA. This position is 3 month contract with a potential of it becoming direct.
Pay: $100-$145 hourly
Job Duties:
This role has a particular focus on the mechanical parts of the endoscope, such as the tips and handles. It will also focus on aspects of the tools that go with the endoscope. The Staff/Principal Mechanical Engineer, Instrument Mechanisms will focus on the conception, design, building and testing of these items as well as delivering these items to high volume manufacturing.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Detailed mechanical design for multiple versions of our endoscope and toolset.
- Significant hands-on building and testing of multiple generations of prototypes.
- Use DFM principles to reduce cost and simplify assembly including molded part design
- Work closely with vendors.
- Participate in the development of specifications, test methods and protocols to ensure the functionality, safety and efficacy of medical devices in accordance with medical device regulations and design controls.
- Create and maintains Solidworks CAD models and detailed drawings.
- Be able to both collaborate closely and show a high degree of self-direction.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Related degrees are acceptable, but you should be able to convince us that you are very competent doing what a mechanical/robotic engineer does.
- Excellent mechanical designer able to build from prototype to production and work in a highly cross-functional environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency with molded part design, surfacing, drafting and collaborating with mold tool manufacturers.
- Facility with high volume Injection Molding parts
- 10+ years of work experience as a hands-on Mechanical Engineer.
- Demonstrated experience working with cross functional teams.
- A driven outlook and with a strong desire to succeed as an engineer, as a team, and as a company.
- An inventive aptitude balanced with discipline and detail-orientation.
- Experience with medical device manufacturing.
- Great understanding of design controls and what is needed to get a product into patients.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with mechanism design for robotic medical devices.
- Experience in a start-up environment.
- Experience with industrial design and product design.
- Proficient with SolidWorks.
