We are seeking qualified licensed professional engineers to support NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC) for the Facilities Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations (FEMO) Branch. Under Task Order 5 of the Engineering and Technical Support Services contract (ETSS), provides engineering and technical support for facilities construction design and modification projects at AFRC. The work objective of FEMO is to modify, maintain, and operate AFRC facilities and infrastructure to support facilities requirements to support flight research while minimizing adverse impact to operations and employees in compliance with Federal, State, Local, and NASA regulations and requirements.
We are seeking two (2) Facility Engineers in the disciplines of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering to perform requirements planning, large scale 3rd party design oversight, smaller internal project design, construction oversight and operational start-up activities. The engineers will be responsible for identifying and ensuring relevant construction codes and standards are included in accordance with NASA policy and procedures and to determine code sections relevant to the particular facility work and then advise FEMO engineers, architects, and operations specialists on the appropriate application of those code sections to the facility work. Responsibilities will include reviewing third party designs and providing input to minimize construction project disruption and avoid property loss and waste. In addition, the engineers will identify and apply code content/requirements when performing quality assurance (e.g., document reviews, work product inspections, witnessing system tests, observing construction work, observing maintenance work, etc.). These positions will require a full-time onsite presence at NASA AFRC located in Edwards, CA.
Requirements:
- Must have a Professional Engineer License issued by the state of California.
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 10 years professional facilities design and construction engineering and management.
- Experience with AutoCAD/Revit.
- Experience with Design -Bid-Build and Design-Build project delivery mechanisms.
- Experience translating customer requirements to design options with accurate cost justification.
- Mechanical Engineers must demonstrate experience in building plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection systems.
- Electrical Engineers must demonstrate experience in building power distribution (ranging from low voltage to high voltage), control systems, and safety fundamentals.
- Experience reading & understanding engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
- Ability to review and revise existing standards of engineering techniques, procedures, and practices in building design and building information modeling.
- Ability to coordinate work efforts across other engineering, architecture and construction disciplines to arrive at best technical and value based solutions.
- Ability to influence and motivate personnel to implement courses of action based on sound engineering principles or code requirements.
- Must be able to work a 9/80 schedule to support NASA FEMO.
