About the position
H2MOF is tackling climate change by solving the greatest challenge facing the hydrogen economy: safe and efficient hydrogen storage. We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer/Senior R&D Scientist to evaluate various hydrogen storage system designs based on adsorbent materials and assist in designing and building prototypes. The engineer is expected to perform analytical modeling of fluid flow through porous media, heat transfer and structural analysis to help with storage system design, and work with the testing group to validate model predictions. The engineer must contribute to modeling and evaluating hydrogen charging and discharging, storage pressures, storage temperatures, heat management methods and optimal methods of adsorbent media packaging. This position requires rigorous modeling and collaboration work spanning extended hours.
Key Tasks and responsibilities
o Setup and maintain various modeling software tools.
o Independently run various scenarios of hydrogen storage at various pressures, temperatures, tank sizes, thermal insulations and adsorbent media properties.
o Analyze and generate reports for various design architectures.
o Provide input to the system design team on engineering, selection of components, costing and layouts.
o Support testing team on experimental verifications of predictive capabilities.
o Support prototyping including packaging of adsorbent materials, integration of thermal management systems, pressure containment and hydrogen safety systems.
o Perform safety, risk studies and other key analysis such as DFMEA, PFMEA.
o Prepare process flow diagrams (PFD), piping and instrumentation diagrams (PID).
o Work in an integrated team comprising test engineers, technicians, and system architects.
Essential Qualifications
o Master’s or Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
o Experience and knowledge of heat and mass transfer, CFD analysis (COMSOL experience is a big plus), CAD industry-best practices and high-pressure and/or liquid hydrogen storage.
o Ability to meticulously record analysis processes and results and prepare detailed reports.
o Willingness to undertake tedious modeling work including long-duration runs, troubleshooting and iterative improvements.
o Proven experience in supporting hydrogen project developments.
o Ability to contribute in a meaningful way in adsorbent system design, modeling, and application.
o Excellent people and interpersonal skills
