A Sr. Network Engineer will be responsible for analyzing, designing, installing, configuring, and troubleshooting of network infrastructure and application components. The ideal candidate must be familiar with a wide variety of LAN/WAN Technologies including routing, switching and firewalling technologies. Will perform a variety of evaluation, maintenance, installation and training tasks to ensure the computer network performance meets company and user satisfaction. Will also provide direction, information and recommendations regarding network configurations and installations.
The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience and must be familiar with a wide variety of LAN/WAN Technologies including routing, switching, wireless, VoIP and firewalling technologies. Additional knowledge of Dell, VMware, Microsoft, SAN storage and remote technologies are desirable. As part of the team, the Senior Network Engineer will support client, server, and network related issues, including acting as a liaison between 3rd-party vendor support teams and the client. Industry certification is strongly desired with emphasis on Network certifications preferred. Additional certifications from other vendors including Microsoft, VMware, Dell SonicWALL and others are a plus.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical knowledge of TCP/IP and network services such as DHCP and DNS
Strong knowledge of LAN switching, Cisco, Dell, Force 10 switches. Configuration, implementation, troubleshooting of network switching issues.
Strong knowledge of BGP, OSPF, VLAN, VoIP, VPN, MPLS
Strong knowledge of Firewalls and implementation. Cisco ASA and SonicWALL
Ability to troubleshoot firewall and routing issues
Experience implementing SAN on Fiber channel, iSCSI and NFS in addition to performance evaluation/optimization
Strong knowledge of wireless networking, including site surveys and spectrum analysis
Understanding of content filters, load balancers, spam filters, and other peripheral network devices
Establishes networking environment by designing system configuration; directing system installation; defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards
Maximizes network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with network architects on network optimization
Secures network system by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access through proper configuration of VPN and Firewalls
Researches, analyzes and diagnoses system problems and makes recommendations as to their solution
Monitor the service queues taking tickets based on priority, including but not limited to:
Server and Network support
Vendor management
Receive incoming service requests (phone/email).
Ensure that documentation changes are performed accurately, and timely. Communicate changes to other team members, as deemed necessary
Special projects and assignments as requested, including product/service turn-ups
Provide onsite (field service) support, as needed
Project deployments and installations
May train and oversee work of less experienced staff
Ability to coordinate communications with multiple vendors and the customer
Experience supporting a production environment within a Co-located data center
Knowledge deploying and supporting SIP protocol in a production environment
Excellent knowledge of enterprise and carrier networking technologies
Knowledge of common Microsoft Server products - Exchange, IIS, SQL, Server Operating Systems
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, conducive to team development
Ability to communicate in an understandable, polite and friendly manner, both written and verbal
Must be attentive to customer service and relationship management - able to take full ownership of projects and related tasks
Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a small business environment
Excellent troubleshooting skills
Must hold a valid driver's license with no restrictions and possess reliable transportation
The ability to bend, squat, crawl or climb 75-95% of the time and lift up to 100 pounds
