Senior Manager, Project Engineering

Based inour Portland, TN facility, and reporting to the Vice President Engineering, the Senior Manager Project Engineering will be responsible for leading the Project Engineering team in the development of innovative Shoals’ products in the Solar, Battery Storage and eMobility market segments. As Senior Manager Project Engineering, this position will manage a team of Project Engineers and Project Coordinators to execute product design and development from concept through production in a cross-functional team environment and ensure that the highest levels of design reliability, quality and performance are observed.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Lead team of Project Engineers and Project Coordinators located in Portland, TN and Poway, CA
• Implement and continuously improve the Phase-Gate Product Development Process for global new product development
• Provide leadership in estimating resource needs, schedules with key milestones, product cost, and project cost
• Work closely with Product Management to understand and refine product requirements
• Develop presentations and communicate project status to executive leadership
• Lead continuous improvement in estimating project/product cost and schedule within Phase-Gate process
• Work closely with Engineering Leadership to develop annual Expense and Capital budgets
• Participate in cross-functional engineering teams to meet product and company objectives for the Product Engineering group. Define project milestones and report progress from concept to production.
• Hands-on design and development of complex electro-mechanical assemblies and Bills of Materials in support of product development efforts.
• Coordinate all engineering tasks, agency regulations, testing and mitigations as necessary, orchestrate design reviews, support prototype, Alpha and Beta builds and testing for all phases of development.
• Ability to summarize and provide concise status reports of project progress. Ability to define issues encountered during development and provide options and recommendations for resolution.
• Work with internal resources and outside vendors and partners in support of product development.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Finance, Marketing, and Legal.

Experience/Qualifications:

• BSME or BSEE with 12+ years of experience in an Electromechanical product development environment.
• 3+ years of leadership experience of cross-functional development teams (PV or EV experience a plus)
• Experience with product development process tools and analysis methods, including Phase-Gate development is required (Work Breakdown Structure experience is a plus)
• Knowledge of configuration management and the engineering change control process.
• Understanding of safety standards and agency regulations, EMC and Environmental compliance (NEC code experience a plus)
• Demonstrated experience leading the development of products from concept to final manufacture, balancing cost, performance and schedule. Design and development of low to medium-volume products a plus.

• Experience in electronics integration and packaging, including thermal management of electronics enclosures and cable routing/management

• Strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills; skill at developing and delivering technical subject matter presentations to non-technical staff and executives
• Leader who works effectively across multiple functional areas to deliver projects.
