Senior Director of Government Affairs – Operations and Communications

Role Summary

As the Senior Director of Government Affairs, you will work closely with the Government Affairs team to execute the legislative and government funding and support strategy for 6K. You will develop planning efforts, working across the 6K Additive, 6K Energy and 6K Next business units to advise, educate, and develop strategy and support for our policy positions, advocacy, grant management, contracts, and compliance efforts at various governmental agencies.

Reporting to the SVP of Government Affairs, the Senior Director of Government Affairs will provide support to the overall sales and marketing team, focusing on developing relationships and identifying local, state, federal and global government initiatives that provide a vehicle for the company to expand business development where opportunities align. This individual will network with stakeholders at the local, state (MA, PA, TN, etc.) and federal levels. Key policy areas of focus include energy, environment, tax, trade, manufacturing, technology, sustainability, corporate social responsibility, aerospace, transportation, and defense.

This position will be based in Washington, DC with willingness to travel 30% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Government Affairs team and the DC based lobbyists/consultants to further 6K's strategic goals.
  • Maintain a team-oriented environment with regular communications that educate and deeply involve all other appropriate 6K leaders on legislative policy and regulatory issues, working closely with the CTOs of each business unit. This work will involve establishing meaningful communications, structure, and processes.
  • Implement the strategy to focus Federal Business Development efforts on the highest probability of winning opportunities, balancing short term & near term, matching to company's technology and product strengths.
  • Track Department of Defense (DOD) and other non-DOD federal contracting and R&D opportunities utilizing SAM and industry announcements and work with the sales and marketing team to conduct outreach to prime contractors in pursuit of teaming arrangements.
  • Prepare written responses to Requests for Information, Requests for Proposals, and grant opportunities while engaging relevant stakeholders within 6K and among its collaborators.
  • Attend (and also recommend/execute) briefings and events related to the key issues/policies and the variety of trade associations and coalitions relevant to 6K.
  • Conduct outreach and host events and tours for government stakeholders to further the policy and business development goals of the company.
  • Implement and execute the strategies and tactics for achieving goals with support of relevant Congressional, Executive Branch, and Agency offices and individuals.
  • Develop relationships and strategies to continue to secure additional state and federal grants from existing funders and new funders.
  • Ensure measurable and effective outcomes of the advocacy strategy through brand building, relationship management, coalition building and strategic engagement and deployment of internal and external resources. Critical to this endeavor is the development of appropriate actionable relationships with key Administration individuals and leaders at several Agencies.
  • Advance 6K's brand in the policy and political community to include all appropriate outreach programs, civic event sponsorships, political fundraising events, third party groups, partnerships, and development.
  • Initiate local/state/federal external affairs, promote key themes including sustainability, ESG, DEIA/J40, and utilize these opportunities to elevate 6k's story and policy agenda.


Qualifications And Skills

  • The ability to communicate persuasively and effectively, both verbally and in writing, at the highest levels of Government and with a variety of audiences is essential.
  • The ability to bring strong credibility to 6K's brand and industry leadership in the policy ecosystem. This can be gained from: years of proven success as a Government Affairs/relations professional with 1) experience in the Federal Government, including within the executive or legislative branches, 2) global company facing similar issues, 3) other industry advocacy roles.
  • A detailed understanding of U.S. government including the interaction with the global landscape, trade policy, national security issues, defense, manufacturing, and technology.
  • If coming from another corporation or association, successful prior experience integrating the legislative policy developed by the federal Government Affairs team across a global company.
  • Given the complexity of geopolitical and policy challenges facing global companies and the energy industry, the candidate must be able to work with diverse business lines and functional partners.
  • Knowledge of, and relations with, key U.S. stakeholders including key Congressional Committees, the DOD, Department of Energy, Department of Commerce, and the State Department.
  • Ability to manage multiple direct reports and teams.
  • An undergraduate degree is required. An MBA or a Juris Doctor is preferred.
  • A willingness to travel as needed is required up to 30%.
