Job description

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Leads multi-system R&D projects from early brainstorming through prototype builds that may involve any combination of disciplines such as mechanical design, mobile hydraulics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and power transmission.
  2. Develops new layouts, new mechanical concepts, and technical drawings for new products using CAD and other engineering tools.
  3. Applies mathematics, statistical methods, kinematics, machine design best practices, and other engineering skills to evaluate design alternatives and make decisions on how best to meet customer needs.
  4. Writes engineering specifications for processes through research and supervision of test programs. Designs validation testing plans and works closely with internal and external testing partners to execute and analyze results in order to prioritize future iterations or improvements.
  5. Leads communication with vendors where engineering is required to develop specifications for new components. Works directly with existing and new suppliers to ensure prototypes will meet project delivery timelines, technical and quality requirements.
  6. Embody the role of technical leader by drafting engineering project plans, coordinating with R&D colleagues or cross functional departments to meet project objectives, leads technical communications on relevant projects with internal stakeholders as well as end customers.
  7. Some travel will be required to visit with customers, research and study new technologies, and participate in testing or validation in remote locations.
  8. Flexibility to perform other duties and assignments as required.

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Agricultural, Aerospace, or Automotive Engineering. Master's preferred.
  • 7+ years relevant job experience
  • Proficiency designing and analyzing new mechanical concepts, assemblies, and components using CAD and CAE, creating engineering models and drawings.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, knowledge of fundamental engineering principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to clearly articulate and present complex technical concepts to customers, colleagues, and top management.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics including Mechanical layouts, Hydraulic, Electrical, Pneumatics, and Water systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of tools.
  • Design experience with NX or Creo.
  • Experience in designing for automotive, mobile machinery, heavy equipment (agricultural or industrial), or durable goods manufacturers.
  • Experience applying FEA tools for structural analysis or CFD simulation tools to model fluid flows.
  • Experience in BEV or HEV design, the design of electrical actuators and associated electromechanical systems preferred.
  • Experience with safety analysis of systems including FMEAs.
