Job Summary:
At Caterpillar’s Decatur, IL facility, we manufacture and assemble large mining and construction equipment. As a member of the Engineering Value Chain (EVC) Team, the primary responsibility of this candidate is to provide total factory and product engineering support and engage in the BIQ and VOC processes. This individual will serve as product Rapid Response support for all Large Wheel Loaders (LWL) and Wheel Dozer Compactors (WDC). This person will also support NPI program introductions, Competitive Updates, and LCP Projects. This role is a multi-disciplined one that closely interacts with the factory assemblers, welders, machinists, Operations Supervisors, Manufacturing Engineers, Quality, Product Support, and a multitude of Design Engineers within the LWL and Wheeled Products Engineering group to ensure all processes go smoothly and without line stoppage. What you will do:
Act as a liaison between the manufacturing facility and off-site design controls
Provide line support to assemblers and line supervisors for assembly of machines
Provide line support for linkage and frame fabrications and top level machining
Stop and Fix assembly, design, and/or piece part issues
Quickly resolve or delegate engineering related issues that prevent the assembly line from operating at peak efficiency
Document resolutions through the use of Interim Corrective Actions (ICA’s), material and/or process deviations, BIQ’s, or other means and assist with Permanent Corrective Action (PCA) solutions
Ensure timely documentation/assignment/resolution for all CI cards, Rapid CPI issues discovered during daily assembly of machines
Perform visibility, access, space claim, and interference studies

Product Design and Development : Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
Level Extensive Experience:
• Develops organizational standards and processes in order to maximize complex product services' efficiency and effectiveness.
• Creates and introduces new techniques that expedite or simplify the development process.
• Supervises the management of multiple and diverse types of products or services.
• Develops proof-of-concept exercises to prove or disprove validity of proposed products.
• Advises on the appropriate solutions to complex product design and development problems.
• Designs working prototypes of a variety of proposed products or services.
Education and Experience requirement:
Bachelor’s in Mechanical, Agricultural, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering
5+ years' experience in Engineering
Experience with print reading, geometric tolerances, the use of HVC (PRWB), Pro-Engineer/Creo, VisView, and Teamcenter database tools
Knowledgeable of heavy equipment design
Direct factory experience and being comfortable in a hands-on environment
Top Candidates will also have:
Must be self-starter with high initiative, team-oriented individual, with excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to network across multi-disciplinary teams
Working knowledge of Caterpillar Production System and/or Lean process
Experience in FMEA, APQP, NPI, and Engineering Change workflow
Direct knowledge of welding and machining large fabrications
Familiar with overall machine systems and components
