As a Senior Design Engineer your impact is two-fold:
- For the customer, your role is to analyze and understand their needs and design and build custom machines, or modify existing machines, to meet customer needs.
- For the team, your role is to work with the design team and be a technical problem solver. You’ll be a key part of delivering outstanding service and providing unique customer solutions.

This is a long-term, career-growth oriented position, and as such, the compensation package we’re offering is competitive: $85,000 - $107,000 (annually, based on experience), and includes opportunities for you to maximize your earning potential through education, experience, our ESOP, bonuses, and professional development programs.

Responsibilities
- Meet with JHF Sales team and our customers to analyze and understand customer needs and requirements.
- Help determine which projects JHF should pursue and accept, given our in-house capabilities and resources.
- Design machine functionality to address or improve the customer process within the provided budget.
- Determine and develop preliminary design, review with engineering manager and sales, and get sign-off from customer.
- Determine cost of a mechanical system, including labor, and work with other departments to consolidate total project solution and costs.
- Develop 3D models using SolidWorks.
- Specify off-the-shelf and custom hardware components that will support the mechanical design, defaulting to JHF vendors whenever possible.
- Work with outside vendors for custom machined components when in-house resources are insufficient.
- Create bill of materials and build instructions.
- Responsible for final approval of mechanical design.
- Develop final project proposal and provide to engineering manager and sales for review and determination of final sell price.
- Manage multiple projects from start to finish, including customer run-off and start-up, and work with other departments within JHF to accomplish this.
- Assist with and direct machine build and assembly.
- Occasionally start-up mechanical system and ensure functionality at customer’s facilities.
- Prepare as-built documents for distribution to customer’s engineering staff and JHF repository.
- Mentor junior level engineering staff.
- Manage multi-department projects as assigned.
- Focus on department process improvements and SOPs.
- Spend time with outside Salesmen and Customers to help develop and present proposed solutions.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering and/or other specialized degree in engineering sciences as it relates to company products.
- Ideally 5 years of related experience in a similar role.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
