JOB INFORMATION

Golf Operations Assistant positions answer questions concerning the golf course and procedures, rules and regulations; determine and collect proper green fees from customers and arrange starting order for players; organize golfers into playing groups and make arrangements for timely spacing; patrol the golf course to interpret and enforce course rules; keep records, including those for numbers of players and cash receipts; operate a cash register/computer; close out and balance cash register; determine and issue resident identification cards; and perform other duties as assigned.
NOTES:
  • Employees in job classifications represented by Municipal Employees Association (MEA) are scheduled to receive the following general wage increases:
4% effective 7/1/24
2% effective 1/1/25
5% effective 7/1/25
  • In In addition to the scheduled general wage increases, the following special salary wage increase is also scheduled to take effect for Golf Operations Assistant:
5% effective 1/1/2025
5% effective 1/1/2026
  • Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
  • This recruitment will be used to fill both limited, hourly and permanent, fulltime Golf Course Assistant positions.
  • Golf Operations Assistant positions are required to work day and evening hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • In accordance with California Public Resources Code section 5163, all persons holding Golf Operations Assistant positions must get tested for tuberculosis (TB) when hired and every four years thereafter as a condition of continued employment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.
AGE: 16 years of age or older.
NOTES:

  • Applicants less than age 18 must obtain a work permit prior to starting work.
  • Work permits may be obtained through the school system.
  • Applicants who are age 17 and are high school graduates, or have passed the California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE) or General Education Development (GED) examination, are not required to have a work permit; however, they must submit a copy of their high school diploma, CHSPE or GED results with their application.

EXPERIENCE: 900 hours of experience performing ONE of the following:

  • Customer Service experience as a reservation agent responsible for scheduling attendance and/or determining availability for events.
  • Customer Service experience as a cashier who determines fees, sells tickets and is responsible for cash and/or credit card payments and determining qualifications for access.
  • Customer Service experience in a job whose PRIMARY responsibility is providing information, interpreting rules and regulations about services offered.
  • Customer service experience in the golf environment which includes customer education of rules and regulations required on the golf course.
  • Experience in a business office which includes providing customers information, interpreting rules and regulations about services offered on an individual basis.

NOTE:
  • City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.
LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License will be required at the time of hire.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
  • Customer service experience.
  • Basic golf knowledge.
  • Point of sale computer experience / general computer skills.

SCREENING PROCESS

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Employment offers are conditional pending the results of all screening processes applicable to this position, which may include the following: confirmation of citizenship or legal right to work in the United States; completion of a pre-employment medical review and exam (which may include drug and alcohol testing); reference checks; and fingerprinting. Fingerprints will be submitted to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice for a conviction record report. Certain positions may require additional screening processes, including a polygraph examination and/or background investigation. All screening processes must be successfully completed before employment begins. A positive test result for alcohol, cannabis/marijuana, illegal drugs, or inadequately explained prescription drugs, or misrepresentation, falsification, or omission of pertinent facts in any step of the screening or selection process, may constitute cause for disqualification or termination of employment.
