Senior Design Engineer (A123 Systems, LLC, Novi, Michigan): The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for developing 3D CAD Data models, as well as 2D drawing prints to support Battery Module Assy and subcomponents such as housings, covers, and general hardware components based on customer requirements. The Senior Design Engineer is also responsible for supporting PDM based system through release; developing and applying CAD software engineering methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems; assessing architecture and hardware limitations, planning technical projects in the design and development of CAD software; and defining and selecting new approaches and implementation of CAD software engineering applications and design specifications and parameters. Specific responsibilities include: completing CAD work required to process Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) including 3D model development, as well as 2D drawings that may be required; ensuring adherence to all CAD and drafting standards; checking work during the processing of ECs to ensure adherence to CAD/drafting standards; creating file conversions as required from CAD data, i.e. iges, dxf, stp, and pdf formats; designing new components and systems utilizing 3D CAD modeling techniques under the direction of product engineering; creating, updating and detailing mechanical/electrical part drawings as required with CAD software; supporting mechanical and electrical engineers with the release of parts into PDM system and data management with MCAD Connector system; applying A123 Systems CAD and drawing standards; providing first line checking responsibility for mechanical component designs, system assembly models, and BOM accuracy; assisting in the development of Mechanical design standards and implementation; ensuring drawings, notes, formats, etc. meet A123 Systems design standards and best practices.
Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, plus 3 years of experience using Design Software such as CATIA V5, Creo, and/or UG-NX in an Automotive Tier1 supplier market.
Must have: 3 years of experience designing with thermal management system and a good understanding of electronics general knowledge of manufacturing process both Prototype level as well as Series Production; conceptual design capability with one or more CAD systems (Creo 4.0/Catia V5/UG-NX); general knowledge of sheet metal design as well as Plastics/Composites as they pertain to manufacturing; general comprehension of PDM systems and or release systems; proven ability in GD&T and ASME Y14.1 Drawing Practices and ASME Y14.5 Dimensioning and Tolerance Standards; and must have focus on quality, accuracy, and efficiency of design release and updates.
