Job Summary:The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for being the Operations team's financial business partner and the owner of all COGS and inventory-related accounting issues
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare weekly dashboards for management to track key operational data such as builds, shipments, shipped revenue, MFG variances and period costs
- Own the month-end close process to ensure all operational activity (receipts, issues, builds, shipments) and related variances have been captured and properly recorded in the P&L and/or balance sheet
- Work with Operations throughout the month to investigate any unusual transactions and to ensure these transactions are recorded properly
- Prepare reclass and accrual JEs as necessary to support an accurate month-end close
- Prepare management commentary to compare actuals vs. budget (or forecast) for all major areas of the financials (e.g. revenue attainment, standard margin, MFG variances & period costs, cost center spending, and inventory)
- Collaborate with Operations to develop a robust and comprehensive cycle count program including publishing monthly results and performing periodic audits
- Actively support physical inventory counts
- Collaborate with Operations to establish a robust and comprehensive quarterly E&O inventory reserve process
- Partner with operations to develop a robust and comprehensive annual standard cost-setting process
- Partner with the sales team to ensure we have a solid new product cost-estimating process
- Perform ad hoc analyses as requested to identify cost savings or process improvement opportunities
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field is required
- 8+ years of experience in cost accounting or manufacturing finance roles
- Excellent computer skills particularly Excel to manipulate and analyze large data sets
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks simultaneously and manage multiple deadlines
- Extensive experience working in a cross-functional team setting
