Senior Clinical Documentation Educator- Remote
Job Description:
The Senior Clinical Documentation Educator primarily support clinical departments of high coding/documentation complexity with high risk and large scope across the organization. In a senior role, educators are expected to serve the organization as technical and subject matter experts for areas in which they work and work with a high level of independence and are expected to provide input and guidance to other members of the Coding Quality and Education team. They are often required to lead projects, develop and implement new methodologies and make recommendations to improve both the business and processes within the Coding Quality and Education team. They lead and work on highly complex projects with large degrees of risk and scope, often serving in the role of project manager.
Education Qualifications:
Key Responsibilities:
Acts as the liaison between coding services and operational leadership, Medical Professionals, and departments throughout Essentia Health
Provides support (New Physician/APP orientations, Section Meetings, One on One Education sessions, etc. ) to physicians/Advanced Professional Providers with moderate to high documentation and coding complexity and risk
Acts as a trainer, resource, and Subject matter expert to the Coding Partners on the team
Collaborates and provides guidance/education on coding concepts related to E/M, CPT, ICD-10, and HCC diagnosis’
Proactively identifies opportunities and develops recommendations through data analysis and leads projects with moderate to high complexity, risk, and scope
Remote position with as needed on-site visits for special projects or department/section meetings
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare, Business, or related field of study
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years’ experience in healthcare coding/auditing/physician documentation education, required
Proven work record showing a high level of independence and requiring limited supervision. Demonstrates ability to make appropriate decisions and exercises autonomy and influence
Preferred Qualifications:
5 years’ experience in healthcare coding/auditing/physician documentation education, preferred
Experience leading projects
Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams and providers is a plus
Credentialed as or eligible* for:
AHIMA credential (RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator), RHIT (Registered Health Information technician), CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), CPC -H (Certified Professional Coder – Hospital)).
AAPC credential (CPC (Certified Professional Coder)*Applicable credentialing required within two years of date of hire
AHIMA Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
- Applicable credentialing required within two years of date of hire.

Pay Range
$68598 - $102898 / year
The approximate base compensation range is posted, but the actual offer will reflect our total compensation and benefits package. The offer will be determined by a number of factors including the selected candidate’s experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, FTE, as well as internal equity among our team.
