Responsibilities

Participates as a team leader in the collection, analysis, organization and presentation of research and clinical data acquired from normal subjects and patients for numerous research protocols as well as clinical evaluations; disciplines include orthopedics, neurology, physical medicine, etc. The Senior Kinesiologist is responsible for patient screening, assessments, evaluations, and is able to interpret measurements to provide appropriate therapeutic intervention, education, counseling and disease management for patients. Senior kinesiologists provide direction to kinesiologists and technicians for highly complex interventions including locomotor training, exoskeleton training or other developing protocol interventions as designated by the principal investigator (PI) and study team. Independently performs and interprets physiological and physical assessments including neuromuscular screenings, psychological screenings, and strength assessments, standard and cardiopulmonary stress tests, pulmonary function tests, oxygen saturation measurements, body composition analysis using DXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry). Develops and implements treatment plans for patients, including disease management education, counseling and support to patients and family members involved, exercise prescription, proper exercise training and technique, safe use of exercise equipment. Monitors and evaluates each patient's treatment plan and must work collaboratively and effectively with the medical team regarding each patient's care. Has primary responsibility for calibration, periodic maintenance, and data collection, and shared responsibility with lab engineers and programmers for troubleshooting computer hardware/software and other equipment used in the motion and strength testing labs. Maintains an effective working relationship with numerous personnel in the clinical and research community to facilitate study coordination, testing, and facility/equipment selection, installation and maintenance. Project lead responsibilities include monitoring data integrity, data analysis and interpretation. Will assist PI in writing grants and protocols, as well as writing and editing scientific publications.


Qualifications

Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, exercise science, exercise physiology, recreational therapy, health education, biomedical engineering, or related field, with at least 3 years’ experience in the field.

Master’s degree in Kinesiology, exercise science and physiology or related field preferred.

Biomechanics or Motion Analysis Laboratory experience preferred. Requires strong mathematics and computer operations knowledge to support data analysis and ability to work with detail and accurately reduce and summarize complex data. Requires mechanical aptitude and ability to work with a variety of instrumentation and computer systems. Must have ability to provide troubleshooting and calibration for electronic and mechanical instruments. Previous training and/or experience in cardiac measures, neurologic recovery measures, medical testing, exercise prescription or other testing specializations required. Must be physically able to demonstrate/lead various exercises and assist patients with various exercises, as well as with the use of various forms of exercise equipment. Requires strong interpersonal skills to work with pediatric and adult patients, students and laboratory staff. Requires ability to work independently and as part of a closely integrated team both as a leader and a team member. Requires strong organizational skills. Must be able to handle numerous tasks simultaneously with efficiency. Requires good decision making and judgment capabilities, attention to detail and follow-through and ability to handle confidential information. Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously and must meet tight timelines to provide data to referring physicians/investigators for clinical and research applications.Previous patient care experience especially working with individuals with disabilities. Behavior/Health coaching experience and certification is preferred, as is past project leadership or management experience.

Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) Certification or Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist Certification for master's level (RCEP), through the American College of Sports Medicine, NRN certifications through NeuroRTI, or other specialized certifications applicable to intended research will be considered.

Certifications are required within 1 year of hire date. Equivalent and applicable work experience will also be considered. Basic Life Support or Advanced Cardiac Life Support required within 6 months of hire.
