Introduction

We at the Potomac Center/SETT facility provide quality person-centered supports to adults with intellectual disabilities at our campus in Hagerstown, Maryland. Our aim is to partner with the community to help our residents achieve their goals. The Potomac Center is a 62-bed licensed Intermediate Care Facility (ICF). This program focuses on using therapeutic interventions to empower residents as they learn the skills they need to successfully return to community living. The Secure Evaluation and Therapeutic Treatment (SETT) Program, located within the Potomac Center campus, is a 32-bed licensed Forensic Residential Center that provides services to individuals with intellectual disabilities and court involvement within a safe and secure environment. The program provides assistance as they resolve their court involvement and work toward transitioning to a less secured environment. The SETT utilizes active treatment as well as providing evaluation, assessment and competency attainment education

POSITION DUTIES

The Security Attendant I is the entry level of work involving the security and care of the residents at Potomac Center and SETT. The Security Officer is responsible for covering a routine security shift(s) as assigned. During those shifts, they will conduct security rounds of the facility checking the physical security of the facility, checking fire extinguishers and other safety equipment, and reporting any safety or security related defects or anomalies. Security Officers will have access to security monitors and will be responsible for monitoring the security video during their watch. Security Officers will respond to all codes to assist with resident and staff safety. Security Officers will monitor the Center’s gate; monitoring access to the Center. Security Officers are also on call to any emergency at the facility as necessary.

Per the Amended Directive and Order Regarding Vaccination (MDH # 2023.04.18.03) issued by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health, effective April 18, 2023, staff in all hospitals and residential facilities operated by the Maryland Department of Health or any local health department are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Staff includes, but is not limited to, regular and contractual employees, contractual staff, volunteers, and other state employees performing any duties at the facility. An individual may request an accommodation by providing appropriate and sufficient documentation for bona fide medical or religious reasons.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission regulation.

Experience: None.

Note: The above educational requirement is set by the Police and Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209 of the Annotated Code of Maryland.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess experience working with mentally and/or intellectually disabled or CI populations and knowledge of the methods and procedures in maintaining the security of persons and property.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

2. Some positions in this classification may be required to operate large vans to transport patients. Employees assigned these duties will be required to obtain a Maryland driver's license of the appropriate class for this type of vehicle

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees who have not already done so must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for a Correctional Officer during their probationary period, (Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209). Selection standards for correctional officer training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01 and include the following:

U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status

Must be at least 21 years of age

A completed background investigation

Oral interview

Physical examination.

2. Employees in this classification will be required to provide the facility with a telephone number where they can be reached.

3. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
