About the position:
We're looking for a Safety Specialist who supports Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) for assigned division and/or departments, implements and maintains company policies adhering to local, state and federal EHS regulations. Involved in the design and development of facilities, work areas and work procedures and makes EHS recommendations accordingly. Ensures compliance with all EHS regulations and keeps up to date of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Interfaces with all federal, state, and local regulatory bodies. Is required to provide support to multiple sites and/or multiple shifts. Depending on job assigned may be focused more specifically in environmental or safety area. Performs work under minimal supervision. Projects are generally large/complex in scope and generally have impact at an individual, departmental, divisional and/or corporate wide level. Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to others.
  • Recognizes that ensuring a safe work environment is everyone's responsibility. Provides leadership in EHS functional areas and acts/utilizes equipment in a manner that ensures a safe and incident-free work environment.
  • Requires a drive for quality results with a minimum of avoidable errors and problems, as well as the minimum consumption of resources.
  • Recognizes who their customer is, understands their customers' requirements, and focuses on customer satisfaction.
  • Is Subject Matter Expert to ensure a safe work environment for employees, contractors and visitors to the site or sites where assigned which includes various/multiple shift environments.
  • Acts as internal EHS consultant to assigned groups, shifts, departments and/or divisions providing leadership, guidance and advice on a wide range of EHS topics. Maintains presence in operations to ensure open communication with all employees.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state and federal EHS regulations. Ascertains levels of pollution and recommend appropriate action.
  • Designs, develops and may deliver effective and timely training programs, ensuring compliance with all internal and external regulations and compliance. Identifies and trains subject matter experts to deliver training, and delivers training personally.
    Oversees, develops and may perform program audits to ensure compliance with Company policy and related regulations (e.g. LOTO, Crane/Hoist, Confined Space, Electrical, etc.)
    Schedules all required industrial hygiene testing and training and maintains records and documentation (e.g. Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection, etc.).
    Communicates policies to organization including print and oral communication programs. Identifies opportunities for additional programs and policies; makes recommendations. Oversees and participates in/supports review of Safety Manual and/or Environmental Manual and ensuring recommendations for any required changes are properly evaluated and implemented.
  • Member of the Safety Steering Committee (SSC). May Chair SSC in EHS Manager's absence and may chair the ATL and Supervisor level Safety Committees and/or EHS Committees for the organization. Plans monthly meetings including preparation of presentations, metrics and other communications to the Committee. Works closely with managers to meet with employees to discuss EHS concerns and proactively communicate safety information.
  • Oversees and/or participates in STOP initiatives for site. Ensures sufficient STOP Auditors are trained and motivates auditors to participate in regular STOP audits to proactively address safety behaviors.
  • Oversees Risk Assessment program for organization ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations and standards. Develops annual Risk Assessment Plan, coordinates required team support, and performs risk assessments and implements required corrective action. Works with Contractor Coordinators Risk Management to ensure hazard assessments and orientation for all contractors are performed timely.
  • Ensures timely reporting of and investigations into all work-related incidents and ensures corrective action has been identified and implemented.
    Communicates organization's emergency plans and coordinates required drills.
  • Ensures related recognition programs are consistently implemented to motivate safe behavior of employees.
  • Supports the overall planning and installation of equipment and process change to ensure compliance with EHS policies and regulations. Ensures
  • Work Instructions are up to date and key points of safety clearly noted.
  • Prepares, analyzes and communicates Metrics and Weak Point Analysis with employees and management.
  • Participates in Asaichi meetings. Tracks and ensures closure of all corrective actions in a timely manner, coordinating with Manufacturing Engineering, Facilities/Maintenance and other Departments and/or outside partners as necessary.
  • Participates in capital equipment procurement process with manufacturing engineering, facilities/maintenance, operations and other departments and/or outside partners as necessary.
  • Participates in design review process with project management organization for new or redesigned products and parts.
    Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Works under minimal supervision, conferring with manager on unusual matters.
  • Assignments are broad, requiring originality and ingenuity and have a major impact on the organization's effectiveness.
  • Operates with appreciable latitude for action and decision.
  • Projects are generally large/complex in scope and generally have impact at an individual, departmental, divisional and/or corporate wide level.
  • Maintains a general knowledge of the business and material handling industry.

About you:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in EHS or related field is preferred.
  • Four or more years of EHS experience is required.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing and/or warehouse environment is preferred.
  • Certifications related to EHS are preferred (for example OSHA 10 or 30 Hour Course Certificate, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager Certification, etc.)

About the total compensation package:
Salary - The salary for this position is $62,300-$72,900.

Requirements
