The Manager, Environment Health, and Safety (EHS) enables consistent execution of EHS risk reduction efforts across multiple operations (assigned distribution centers and Specialty business locations). The Manager deploys center-developed EHS tools and methodologies to the field, and aligns local leadership to annual EHS tactics that support overall EHS strategy. The Manager builds local-level EHS capabilities that result in high quality EHS risk management (from risk assessment through to risk control). The Manager provides proactive technical and regulatory EHS guidance and responds to issues on an as-needed basis. The Manager delivers EHS program audits and facilitates site-based EHS program self-assessments. Supports company-wide EHS initiatives as assigned.

The Manager, EHS will travel to any one of our Southeast locations listed below and will travel up to 75% of the time. Candidate must live close to an airport within the Southwestern United States: Lubbock, TX, Albuquerque, NM, Phoenix, AZ, Las Vegas, NV, Corona, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Fontana, CA, and San Diego, CA.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Builds alignment among assigned locations to consistently implement center-developed EHS initiatives against established timelines. Explains intent and desired outcomes of EHS initiatives to site stakeholders to improve understanding, gain acceptance, and build momentum.

  • Provides ready, high quality, and proactive EHS support to assigned Markets and Specialties locations. Regularly follows up with and coaches sites to ensure necessary follow-through.

  • Assists sites with EHS troubleshooting, clarifies EHS regulatory requirements, and answers technical EHS questions to minimize EHS exposures.

  • Drives local level EHS execution to reduce EHS risk exposures, drive EHS cultural engagement, and achieve regulatory compliance. Regularly monitors and reports annual EHS plan execution for assigned sites. Consults with site leaders on plan execution improvement opportunities.

  • Builds local EHS capability building so that sites can assess and control EHS risks in line with center-developed tools and methodologies. Coaches and educates resources in classroom and “on the floor” settings to ensure high quality risk management and EHS routines. Audits / facilitates EHS self-assessments per center guidance.

  • Delivers timely onboarding of new leaders (e.g., Supervisors, Managers, Directors, VPOs) so that they understand their role in EHS and how and when to use various EHS-related systems (CHEFs, First Advantage, DriveCam, APSM, etc.).

  • Tracks and supports site level EHS actions (e.g., DQ status, incident management, DriveCam events, Safety Performance Teams, EHS training, etc.) to ensure ongoing compliance and appropriate follow-up.

  • Leads assigned EHS incident investigations as directed by Region and / or Corporate leadership and internal counsel. Investigates Ethics Line concerns as requested. Supports local regulatory interactions (OSHA and EPA inspections, OSHA complaints, DOT inquiries, etc.).

  • Supports one or more company-wide SHE initiatives as assigned (may include EHS systems, special events, specific vendor relationships, etc.).

  • Models high ethical standards and employee advocacy reinforcing the “We Care” mindset.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to travel up to 75%.

  • Must have valid drivers license.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Engineering, Science, EHS field) preferred. May consider demonstrated equivalent work experience.

  • Professional certification (CSP, CIH, PE) or ability to become certified a plus.

RelatedExperience/Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in the manufacturing, foodservice, and / or distribution industries, supporting Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Transportation Safety, and / or Environmental Management. Multi-site responsibility and experience with union environments desirable.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Communicates passion and energy for EHS and the business. Is a change agent that can move the organization steadily toward EHS excellence.

  • Has solid interpersonal skills, can influence key stakeholders and build coalitions. Develops collaborative relationships with various leaders.

  • Has good written and oral communication skills with a strong ability to influence, negotiate, resolve conflicts, and facilitate among a diverse group of individuals.

  • Possesses effective organizational, project management, and analytical skills and can facilitate sound decision-making.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and to work effectively under pressure when tight timelines and demanding customer expectations. Is highly adaptive and able to function well within a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of various EHS federal and state laws and regulations (OSHA, DOT, EPA) and industry benchmarking metrics.

  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

  • Ability to travel up to 75%, required .

The following information is provided in accordance with certain state and local laws. Compensation depends on experience, geographic locations, and other factors permitted by law. In California , the expected compensation for this role is between $102,100 and $136,200. This role is also eligible for annual incentive plan bonus.
