Role Description
The San Francisco SPCA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our team as the Director of Environmental Safety and Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive Environmental Safety and health programs to ensure the well-being of our animals, staff, and visitors. The Director will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and healthy environment across all SF SPCA facilities.
Core Responsibilities
- Redesign and implement effective Environmental Safety, and health programs and SOPs to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate potential hazards.
- Source or create in-house staff training programs regarding safety protocols, emergency procedures, and environmental compliance.
- Serve as the Society's Head of Emergency Management to refresh or develop an emergency response strategy with internal external stakeholders to ensure the SF SPCA hospital and shelters are resilient in any natural or man-made disaster.
- Serve as primary liaison with 3rd party on-site Security team, managing incidents and reporting monthly trends into the Senior Executive team.
- Make recommendations to SPCA management team regarding changes needed to secure the Mission campus.
- Stay abreast of local, state, and federal regulations related to Environmental Safety and health.
- Conduct annual OSHA compliance reporting and inspections, if required.
- Develop and implement procedures for responding to safety or security incidents, accidents, and emergencies.
- Lead investigations into incidents and accidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field. Advanced degree or certification is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Environmental Safety and health, with a focus on animal welfare or shelter operations preferred.
- Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to safety and emergency preparedness.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to develop and implement effective training programs.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- This is a hybrid role with 3 days per week minimum required on site in San Francisco.
Salary & Benefits
The starting salary for this position depends on the depth and breadth of experience. The expected range is $145,000 - $160,000.
