Safety Coordinator

Job Summary:

Herc-U-Lift, Inc. is looking for a Safety Coordinator Instructor to join our Safety Team based in Maple Plain, MN. The successful candidate will be accountable to train material handling equipment operators, organize and administer operator competence tests and issues certificates, maintain all records of training in accordance with OSHA requirements, as well as perform and track audits on trained associates. The candidate is responsible for acting as an OSHA compliance expert for Herc-U-Lift’s customers and will provide the best course offering recommendation based on their needs.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Train and certify all personnel on safe operation of all material handling equipment, including Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT), mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPS), construction equipment & Train-the-trainer courses.
• Sign up and administer OSHA safety courses for Herc-U-Lift customers. If requested, travel to customer locations to administer practical training.
• Perform practical applications of Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT), mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPS), construction equipment & Train-the-trainer courses.
• Teach equipment familiarization and principles of operation.
• Instruct, examine and issue certification.
• Oversee practical training and testing.
• Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes and rules.
• Create documentation and records of internal safety procedures & accidents.
• Maintain safety insurance statistics and manage reporting sites (PICs, ISNetworld, Browz, etc.).
• Prioritize safety and accident prevention.
• Become a resource for safety related questions for both customers and internal personnel.
• Continually add value to training material through comprehensive evaluation and implement machine specific training plans and programs.
• Develop, prepare, and implement internal safety videos and procedures.
• Write, plan, create videos and expand training content for online platform.
• Promote industry safety activities and engage team members to build and maintain safety as part of the culture.
• Identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents and health problems.
• Conduct facility audits and audits on PIT trained associates.
• Serve as a backup to the Lead Safety Coordinator.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable OSHA standards.
• Proficiency in computer usage, email, MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
• Understanding of computer software used for planning, editing, and scripting.
• Well-developed observational, analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to conduct training.
• Effective verbal and written communications skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong skills developing relationships across all levels and functions.
• Good organization, time management and prioritization skills.
• Able to work flexible schedules/shifts as needed for customer’s 24hr operation.
• Familiarity with the tools, machines and equipment used in the workplace.

Education and Experience:

• 2-year degree or equivalent experience
• In-depth knowledge of OSHA guidelines and practices.
• Proven experience as a Safety Coordinator or similar (preferred).
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a means of transportation to various training locations.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must possess the manual dexterity, flexibility and visual acuity to perform inspections functions requiring walking, climbing, squatting, lifting, bending and twisting.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
• Ability to travel to other branches and customer sites.
