Safety and Training Specialist  
 
The ideal Safety and Training Specialist candidate will, under limited supervision, drive a culture of safety through training, communication, hazard assessments, and root cause analysis. Effectively communicate with internal staff, new hires, and industry professionals in developing and implementing techniques to enhance Safety and Training goals and objectives. Promote comprehensive employee safety programs for organizational compliance and best practices by supporting documentation and recordkeeping suitable for managers and leadership to make organizational decisions. While taking direction from Corporate Safety Management, coordinates the development and hands-on implementation of a comprehensive industrial safety program. Ensures the alignment with Corporate Safety objectives, safe procedures, awareness, and Training are conducted with a goal to achieve continuous improvement for the reduction of work related injuries/illnesses and related cost reduction strategies. Achieve compliance obligations with applicable Safety and health standards. 
 
Safety & Training Specialist Primary Responsibilities: 
  • Provide and/or coordinate site specific safety training/testing (e.g. incident investigation, lockout/tagout, powered industrial trucks, ergonomics, safety inspections, Job Safety Analysis, audiometric testing, etc.) as necessary and/or directed by Corporate Safety. 
  • Responsible for training related to new hire OSHA required orientation and Company Safety programs. 
  • Assist in job hazard analysis ergonomic assessments to identify risk factors and work with engineering to recommend control measures for ergonomic improvements and soft tissue injury prevention. 
  • Supports location assessments (e.g. audits, inspections, accident investigations, etc.); with site management and recommends & assists in the execution of corrective actions. Trains auditors as needed. 
  • Regularly inspect facilities to ensure a safe workplace including emergency response system, fire alarm, and fire sprinkler system. 
  • Assist in investigating and performing Root Cause Analysis for accidents and near-miss incidents. 
  • Calculate and/or track monthly safety related data. 
  • Facilitate Safety Committee meetings, and maintain minutes. 
  • Coordinate annual medical monitoring testing, evacuation drills, and other regulatory tasks as directed. 
  • Assist in development of “task based” LOTO Procedures. 
  • Ensure safety work rules, policies and procedures are being followed plant wide. 
  • Respond and provide assistance to all emergency situations. 
  • Be a participant in the facility’s Emergency Response team. 
  • Able to be flexible with schedule at times to cover all three work shifts. 
  • Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials, and halt activities that pose threats to workers' health or safety. 
  • Foster a safety culture and help prepare company for emergency response plans; such as fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, or first-aid supplies, and CPR/First Responder training by working alongside the Safety Committee, and Emergency Response Team. 
  • Support and drive company initiatives related to health and wellness such as ergonomics, strength training, and stretching programs. 
  • Other safety related items as assigned. 
  • Evaluate training materials prepared by instructors, such as outlines, text, or handouts. 
  • Maintain the contractor compliance online platforms and provide all necessary documentation and Training to associates to ensure contractor safety expectations are being met. 
  • Work closely with employees and management to ensure consistent compliance with all safety policies and procedures including classroom style safety training and online learning platforms for employees. 
  • Ensure availability of selected personal protective equipment (PPE) 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by Corporate Safety Management,.

  • Must have excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented. Must hold a valid driver’s license due to business travel.  
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Applications/Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Work, Powerpoint). 
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills. 
  • Experience working with manufacturing processes and related equipment (Required). 
  • Associate/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (Required). 
  • Must be able to work independently, with minimal direction 
  • Strong presentation and Training skills (Preferred). 
  • First Aid/CPR Certification (Bi-Annual Course). 
  • OSHA 10 (Preferred). 
 
Competencies: 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety files, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to effectively communicate with production and management personnel.  
  • Ability to apply mathematical applications to practical situations.  
  • Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. 
  • Ability to use computers and all standard programs used by the industry and the ability to learn and effectively use any and all other computer programs that are or will be made available.

Job Type: Full-time (Mon-Friday) 40-50Hrs per Work Week Schedule 
  • Day/Night shift 
  • Exempt
  • Monday to Friday 
  • Work Location: In person 
  • Oak Creek/Franklin Wisconsin Locations 
Working Conditions 
  • Work is performed in a split between office setting and time spent in a manufacturing environments. 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to cold/hot and/or humid conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, cold/hot temperature and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The work environment includes climate extremes found in all areas of plant operations. 
Physical Demands: 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to move about the facility. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger; handle; or feel/hold objects; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; speak; hear taste and smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will be required to be physically capable of being on the facility’s Emergency Response team.
