Job description

Glacier Fish Company is dedicated to producing the highest quality frozen-at-sea groundfish products in the world. We accomplish our mission with a day-in-and-day-out commitment to quality, safety, consistent attention to detail and an on-going concern for the stability and health of the North Pacific fishery resource.

We are one of the largest producers of frozen at sea cod and pollock, and distributes seafood throughout the world. We manage two trawl catcher-processor vessels that operate in the Bering Sea and off the coast of Washington and Oregon. Come join us with one of the many exciting job opportunities available!

Safety & Compliance Administrator reports to the Safety and Compliance Manager and directly supports the daily management of the company safety management system, and is a shared service for both North Star Fishing Company and Glacier Fish Company.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Safety System Administration

  • Review, file and note actionable items on vessel safety reporting submissions.
  • System administrator for vessel audit software program.
  • Maintain and track vessel reporting metrics including but not limited to reporting requirements, open inspection items, and training gaps.
  • Draft, assist with annual document review, document control and communication of Safety and Environmental program manuals, notices, and instructions.
  • Provide direct support to vessels on Safety and Compliance data, procedures and requirements as directed/required.
  • Manage vessel documentation including annual permit and license renewals.
  • Prepare and submit OSHA 300 data annually.
  • Assist with warehouse and office building regulatory compliance.

Vessel Environmental Compliance

  • Conduct vessel audits on environmental regulatory programs. Report findings and assist with development of methods and initiatives to maintain compliance.
  • Maintain the regulatory compliance dashboard for all vessels.
  • Verify regulatory policies and procedures are implemented on board the vessels and properly documented.
  • Prepare and submit annual reports to environmental regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain environmental compliance management plans for each vessel.
  • Participate in annual Tabletop Spill Response Exercise.
  • Investigate pollution incidents to determine causal factors, lessons learned, and mitigation strategies.

Incident Investigations and Near Miss Reporting

  • Participate and assist with onsite and desktop reviews of incident and near miss reports to determine causal factors, lessons learned and mitigation strategies.
  • Provide assistance to the Claims Manager with obtaining information required for processing injury claims.
  • Track Incident and Injury metrics for year-over-year comparison to ensure continual improvement of SMS programs.

Training

  • Support HR with management of Safety and regulatory training requirements.
  • Assist with development of training presentations at crew and management meetings
  • Support Safety Director in development of initiatives to improve at training on board vessels while at sea.

Vessel Inspections

  • Participate in annual vessel Safety and Compliance inspections during shipyard periods.
  • Conduct spot inspections in Dutch Harbor during the fishing season when required.
  • Assist the Safety Director in compiling audit and inspection findings into deliverable reports for vessels and the Corporate Safety Committee.
  • Track inspection findings and coordinate with various department heads to ensure corrective actions are completed

QAULIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Environmental, Engineering, Business or related field preferred.
  • Preferred 2-4 years’ of relevant administrative and safety experience.
  • Experience supporting vessel, manufacturing environment, or heavily safety regulated industries preferred.
  • Experience working in the Seafood or Maritime Industry preferred.
  • Microsoft Office computer software applications at a medium to expert user level.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Strong data entry, analytical and reporting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret regulatory policies.
  • Strong project and task management skills.
  • Data management and familiarity with conducting data analysis.
