Purpose of Position:

The Manager of Safety & Compliance ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. We hire individuals who make safety and customer service their top priorities. We are looking for you if you have the drive, confidence, and determination to succeed!

SAFETY responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitors online, computer-based learning management system to ensure agencywide compliance.
  • Review, evaluate and monitor all transit-related claims made against the agency. Plan and coordinate investigative activities on transit claims with WSTIP.
  • Drug and Alcohol Program Manager, responsible for DOT, state, federal, and agency compliance.
  • Advise agency officials, officers, employees, agents, and managers on financially serious or sensitive matters.
  • Oversee investigation of incidents, accidents, and work-related injuries, including accident investigation, accident reports, accident files, and accident register, and follow up with the claim's office and adjusters as necessary.
  • Determines fault or preventability based on the facts identified at the scene. Provides post-accident counseling for drivers. drivers as necessary.
  • Review and evaluate all file materials and recommendations prepared by Claims Officers for accuracy and thoroughness in making final disposition on claim.
  • Plans, schedules, and conducts monthly safety meetings based on company safety training goals and objectives. Set up regular accident review committees to determine the preventability of accidents. Responds to appeals from drivers.
  • Responsible for reporting and compliance for all safety programs including but not limited to: Accident Prevention Program (APP), Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Hazard-Communications, Emergency Preparedness, and other Employee Safety and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs.
  • Oversee and manage security and emergency preparedness programs.
  • Ensure Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance for transit vehicle safety; document the annual Bureau of Labor and Statistics survey (year-end); assist with Occupational and Industrial Safety in response to investigations.
  • Evaluate safety and training data and analyze trends. Recommend or implement and communicate actions to mitigate and reduce injuries and accidents; integrate these actions into training and safety SOPs and practices.

Other Duties:

  • Assist operational, HR, labor relations and risk management staff with preparations for bargaining, grievances, arbitrations, or any other matters.
  • Oversees successful completion of audits including those conducted by agency staff and by state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • May be required to perform work outside of regular business hours.
  • Work with and maintain confidential information.
  • Demonstrate regular and punctual attendance.
  • Attend all meetings as required.
  • All other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) in Business, Industrial Safety, or other relevant degree. Two years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid driver's license.


Licenses, Certifications & Other Requirements:

Be able to obtain through Ben Franklin Transit:

  • Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) or Washington State Commercial Learner Permit with required endorsements and air brake restriction removed, and corresponding DOT medical certification.
  • First Aid and CPR certification; or ability to obtain within 180-days of employment.
  • OSHA (10 or 30) Certification or obtain one within 180-days of employment.
