Job Description

Location: Ames
Shift Requirements: Days, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. some travel required.
As a Roadside Design Specialist 3 you will help to enhance Iowa's roadsides, by developing projects, working with IA DOT staff to administer projects and provide technical expertise.
The incumbent will be responsible for identifying the needs of IA DOT districts, producing plans and following projects to guarantee their success. This position requires strong communication skills, knowledge, and experience in horticulture, landscape development and project management. Requires valid Driver's License.
Typical Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the selection, design, and preparation of contract documents for IA DOT Roadside Development projects.
  • Conduct field work to scout, stake and inspect current Roadside Development projects.
  • Provide technical assistance to internal staff, consultants, and contractors.
  • Work with IA DOT field staff to guarantee the success of Roadside Development projects through proper maintenance and inspection.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements
    Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
    1) All of the following: (a, b, and c):
    a) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in agronomy, landscape architecture, engineering, horticulture, or forestry; and
    b) Three years of full-time work experience in professional Roadside Development, site plan development, pollution prevention plan development, or watershed management; and
    c) A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience in agronomy, landscape architecture, engineering, horticulture, or forestry, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work equals one year of full-time experience.
    2) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes three years of full-time work as a Roadside Development Specialist 2.
