Job Description
The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) is seeking a motivated professional to partner in business development efforts as the Global Business Team Lead.
The mission of IEDA is to strengthen economic and community vitality by building partnerships and leveraging resources to make Iowa the choice for people and business. Through two main divisions - Business Development and Community Development - IEDA administers several state and federal programs to meet its goals of assisting individuals, communities and businesses. IEDA's International Trade Office (ITO) provides various services to Iowa companies interested in, or currently exporting. IEDA's marketing managers assist companies in developing and expanding export markets. IEDA's Business Development team provides direct sales and project management for business development and growth within Iowa. The Global Business Lead will lead the efforts of our Business Development and International Trade Office teams.
General Duties:
  • Oversees the coordination and execution of business development and international programs in accordance with published regulations, guidelines and procedures, as well as state laws and rules.
  • Evaluates programs' effectiveness on an ongoing basis to develop and implement improvements, new procedures, conditions or work methods.
  • Advises stakeholders on technical program issues; including international trade relations and business development issues within the State of Iowa.
  • Frequently travels state-wide and internationally to develop relationships with key stakeholders and presents opportunities, programs, and resources administered by the Global Business Team to amplify, assist, or enhance strategic challenges facing businesses and industries.
  • Develops and implements an annual Action Plan for Global Business development activities with input from the team.
  • Assists with development and implementation of IEDA marketing efforts to domestic and global company recruitment that competitively positions Iowa's business location advantages and Economic Development programs that support job creation efforts.
  • Coordinates with the Governor's Office on Global Business development opportunities including trade, FDI and project coordination.
  • Coordinates the development of program documents, forms, and content to engage and inform stakeholders.
  • Serves as Iowa State Point of Contact (SPOC) for World Trade Organization and US Trade Representative issues.
  • Leads and evaluates the work of Global Business team members.

The Global Business Team Leadposition is a non-contract, non-merit position that is classified by the State of Iowa as an Economic Development Specialist 4. This position is exempt (salaried) per FLSA regulations.
This is a non-merit position. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.
Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major coursework in the fields of research, planning, economics, finance, public relations, business, journalism, or marketing and five years of full-time work that involved responsibility for interpreting laws, rules, and regulations, and/or securing compliance with them; or compiling and evaluating historical, economic, business, financial programs or program data;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of the required experience for each year (thirty semester or equivalent hours) of the required education.
