Overview
Title: Assistant Vice President - Claims & Loss Management
Reports to: Division Vice President, Artex Risk Solutions, Inc.
Purpose: Provide claims consulting service to captive clients and prospective clients. Coordinate, monitor, and enhance services being offered to our clients/prospects from the Third Party Administrators and Risk Control Service Providers.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Provide claim guidance and act as claim resource to captive members and fellow team members. Actively resolve claim-handling disputes between captive member and the claim administrator. Facilitate good relationships between member and claim administrator while fostering a quality customer service focus.
Review, coordinate and monitor the overall performance of the Third Party Administrator and Loss Control Service Providers. Verify services offered are adequate and service team is competent for the needs of the captives.
Participate in Carrier Audits with the Third Party Administrators to verify proper claim handling practices and being followed.
Review claim and loss control reports and determine whether specific intervention is necessary.
Evaluate and monitor high exposure claims. Design efficient procedures for monitoring claims. Communicate any issues to the Captive Director and advise them of the final resolution.
Arrange and facilitate Risk Control Workshops.
Develop the Risk Management Committee Agenda and work with the chairperson, claim administrator and risk control service provider to obtain information for the board books.
Attend Captive Board Meetings and facilitate the Risk Management Committee Meeting along with prepare the Risk Management Committee minutes and follow up on any action items.
Formulate a Risk Management Budget and work within the budget parameters agreed to by the Board of Directors.
Prepare closeout analysis for the Finance Committee on an annual basis.
Assist with Member Special Attention/Watch List Reviews. Develop reports analyzing client loss pattern by location, type, and period, identifying trends and commendations for solutions.
Review Captive Level loss reports to identify trends to reduce overall cost of the captive and suggest pro-active safety procedures, to focus on problem areas.
Complete Individual Member Stewardship Meetings and follow-up action items.
Adhere to the processes for various functions of the Risk Management Consultant role.
Develop and refine products and services including strategies for cost control. Assist with vetting Strategic Risk Management Partners.
Participate in claim review meetings as consultant on an as needed basis.
Perform tasks as outlined in the agreed upon process including individual Stewardship Meetings and follow-ups.
Act as a mentor to others in the department. Assist in training new employees.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications
College degree and insurance industry designations preferred.
Ten years' experience in claims including adjusting or Risk Management.
Good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to compose clear, concise, and grammatically correct reports.
Working knowledge of computer programs; i.e. Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, etc.
Must be a self-starter with a positive attitude.
Above-average telephone personality and the ability to deal with people in difficult situations.
Ability to travel and work more than eight-hour workdays including weekends as needed.
Ability to work effectively with all members of the captive team.
