Position Summary:
The Respiratory Support Technician provides direct and indirect patient care and services in the home, office, and hospital environment in accordance with all governmental, accrediting, and organizational policies and procedures. This position will utilize all available resources to ensure a customer receives the appropriate goods and services in the most efficient and patient satisfactory manner possible.
Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:
- Work in conjunction with Respiratory Department Staff, CPAP/BIPAP Program Managers, and Operations
Managers to provide instruction, service, and troubleshooting techniques for respiratory equipment to patients.
- Setting up and fitting PAP patients with equipment and masks
- Develop and maintain working knowledge of current Respiratory Programs and HME products and services offered by the company and all applicable governmental regulations.
- Effectively convey ideas or written processes and instructions to patients in a polite, informative, and appropriate matter.
- Contacts clinical support when urgent needs are identified in the patient’s home.
- Complete all company, insurance and/or government provided paperwork timely and entirely. Included, but not limited to; Delivery tickets, safety checklist forms, patient booklet receipts, ABNs, AMAs, equipment specific instruction/cleaning forms, etc.
- Develop basic reimbursement knowledge. Complete all company, insurance and/or government provided paperwork timely and entirely to ensure we will be reimbursed for all appropriate equipment, products and services dispensed. Included, but not limited to; Delivery tickets, safety checklist forms, patient booklet receipts,
ABNs, AMAs, equipment specific instruction/cleaning forms, etc.
- Initiate, maintain and perform follow-up calls or visits with patients.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance checks and simple repair as required by company policy or manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Troubleshoot all equipment failures calmly and patiently.
- Report equipment hazards and/or product incidents as required in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Retain knowledge of and consistently adhere to procedures for the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), infection control and hazardous materials handling.
- Promote services and products to referral sources in the community as appropriate.
- Assist with implementation of quality improvement programs to meet company policies.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and function within the guidelines of HIPAA.
- Completes assigned compliance training and other educational programs as required.
- Maintains compliant with AdaptHealth’s Compliance Program.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Description
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalency
- Valid and unrestricted driver’s license from state of residence
- One (1) year of related experience in HME, Customer Service, general manual labor, military and equipment repair, or maintenance skills is required
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Able to lift 50 pounds, be able to sit, stand, bend stoop, kneel, pull, climb, reach, lift, and perform repetitive movements of the upper extremities
- Subject to long periods of sitting and driving
- Work environment may be stressful at times, as overall work activities and work levels fluctuate
- May be exposed to unsanitary conditions in some home settings
- May be exposed to hazardous materials, loud noise, extreme heat/cold, direct, or indirect contact with airborne, bloodborne, and/or other potentially infectious pathogen
- May be exposed to high crime areas within the service community
- Must be able to drive independently and travel as needed
- May be exposed to angry or irate customers
- Must be able to access the patient’s residence without assistance
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written with customers with the ability to demonstrate empathy, compassion, courtesy, and respect for privacy.
