Job Summary: The RDA Student Assistant/Intern contributes to the research, data management, and information resource dissemination functions of the Career Services Office while gaining experience in higher education student affairs/career services operations, maritime industry and related workforce development, and program evaluation. Under supervision of the Career Services Director and lead direction from the Career Services Administrative Coordinator and Career Coordinator/Advisor, the RDA will develop and apply skills and tactics in research (industry primary and secondary research; survey creation; interviewing); data management (job, internship and employer database development; event participation tracking; multi-platform data migration); and information resource dissemination (data, visual, and qualitative reporting on student/employer/career fair/program/internship evaluations; info summaries and infographics for inclusion in social media posts, website, and PowerPoint.). Student Assistant will also have other duties to meet emerging needs.

Workforce Research-related software/tech intern might use: Labor Market Insights; job and internship platforms; Qualtirics, MS Forms. Data management software/tech intern will use: MS Word, MS Excel. Information resource dissemination software/tech intern might use: Canvas, Symplicity, Omni Web Developer, Vengage; Canva. RDA Student Assistant will also periodically provide support for university and partner events including staffing, if not in conflict with class schedule.

About the California State University Maritime Academy:

Established in 1929, California State University Maritime Academy, a campus of the California State University, is the only degree-granting maritime academy on the West Coast. Located on the scenic Vallejo waterfront, the campus serves a student population of approximately 1000 undergraduates and 50 graduate students.

Cal Maritime offers seven baccalaureate degrees in Business Administration, International Strategy and Security, Facilities Engineering Technology, Marine Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering,  Marine Transportation, and Oceanography. The undergraduate curriculum includes licensing programs for future merchant marine, coast guard, and naval reserve officers. Cal Maritime also offers a Master of Science in Transportation and Engineering Management degree, as well as a number of extended learning programs and courses.
