Daily animal care and maintenance of the Large Animal Research Station (LARS)
To thrive in this role must have a love of science, research, care for animals and enjoy the outdoors.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Willingness to support and participate in the use of animals in research.
Be a motivated worker
Comfort with being in close proximity to Large Animals.
Ability, with supervision, to provide basic care, feeding, and cleaning to a variety of research
animals.
Ability to make observations and record data.

The Student Assistant 2 position at LARS is routinely physically demanding. In addition to the
ability to lift 50lbs., employees will be expected to work indoors and outdoors in extreme
temperatures for prolonged periods, perform repetitive motions, traverse difficult terrain and
climb over obstacles, hear and respond immediately to verbal instructions, run, jump, and be
attentive to potential hazards. Normal job duties may require an employee to stand, sit, or
crouch for prolonged periods.
Ability, once trained, to work unsupervised on weekends and holidays.
Possess basic computer skills.
Have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one and reliable transportation.
Commitment to workplace confidentiality.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants should be enrolled as a UA student in a minimum of 6 credits with a minimum GPA of 2.0.
Position Details:
This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks Alaska. This is a part-time, non-exempt temporary student position.
This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year.
