Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
This position follows defined requirements and utilities technical and mechanical skills to perform research and development tests, gathers and documents data, maintains products sample library and responds to customer sample requests. The Technician also performs routine pilot process area housekeeping and sanitation, and assists the Food Technologist and Division Manager with various other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Plans, coordinates and executes specific tasks pertaining to researching and testing new processes and formulas for existing and new products, and process technologies as assigned, including planning, coordination and execution of lab, pilot plant and production plant tests. Work is carried out under broad supervision using established procedures where applicable, and working to define and document new procedures as needed.
2. Provides and maintains written test documentation, including up-to-date lab books containing accurate results of all experiments, tests, variables (including formulations) used, analytical results and other pertinent information.
3. Ensures that robust library of standard products available for samples is maintained, and responds to customer requests for samples in a timely manner.
4. Responsible for good housekeeping and sanitation practices in pilot plant and R&D areas, following established safety policies, Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP’s) and all other established policies and procedures.
5. Assists Food Technologist and Division Manager with project activities as requested, including investigations of equipment, technologies, materials, ingredients, suppliers, etc.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Associate’s decree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, or one year of related experience and/or training.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
· Demonstrates critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with an ability to utilize scientific principles to develop new products, processes and formulations
· Demonstrates ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and colleagues
· Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages and create and interpret graphs
· Demonstrates good mechanical skills and the ability to learn and operate typical food pilot plant equipment
· Proficiency in use of computers, including working knowledge of MS Office applications
· Functions effectively as a Project Team Member
