Grain Processing Corporation, a member of the Kent Corporation family of companies, has a fantastic opportunity to join their team as Lead the Starch Technical Team through research projects and production support. The R&D Manager must have fundamental understanding of the chemistry and functionality of carbohydrate-based ingredients. Role requires experience with industrial scale manufacturing processes (ingredients, consumer products) and working knowledge of statistical principles. Furthermore, the R&D Manager will assist in structuring a range of products that feed into the New Product Pipeline. This role is recognized as a scientific and strategic resource - with demonstrated ability to develop and champion innovative ideas. R&D Manager will oversee all phases of project execution, ensuring on-time completion.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Apply disciplined, scientific approaches in all areas of responsibility
- Participate in new product development, from conception to commercialization, and interact with Operations, Quality, Sales, Regulatory, Marketing and Technical Service
- Work closely with plant personnel to assist with all production support needs
- Mentor direct reports and develop a plan to build their technical and business skills
- Provide thought leadership on projects within and outside of area of responsibility
- Collaborate with the Analytical Research Group to ensure all projects are built on solid, scientific ground
- Ensure safe working practices in research labs, pilot plants, and manufacturing facilities to meet or exceed safety goals
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
- 7+ years of experience in carbohydrate sciences and/or Consumer Packaged Goods product development
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Positive attitude and motivation to pursue technical challenges
- Presentation skills
- Basic understanding of cereal and grain processing
- Sound problem solving skills and capable of working independently in a collaborative setting
- Working knowledge of statistics -- design of experiments, statistical process control -- is highly desirable
- Flexible and capable of delivering results within compressed timelines
- Experience working in pilot and production scale settings
- Familiar with all phases of product development progression, from concept to commercial launch
EDUCATION:
- MS or BS Food Science, Chemical Engineering, Carbohydrate Chemistry, or related discipline
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage two direct reports (research scientist)
TRAVEL:
- Limited travel may be required
