This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Research Analyst 3 position for the Human and Ecosystem Resilience and Sustainability Lab (HERS) at Oregon State University (OSU) Cascades.
The Oregon State University HERS Lab is hiring one Research Analyst 3 position to lead effectiveness monitoring studies of wildlife crossing structures in central Oregon. The selected candidate will lead and coordinate camera trap data collection, image processing, analysis, and reporting for project partners, including Oregon Department of Transportation, Oregon Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, Central Oregon Land Watch, and others. This is a 12-month position expected to start immediately (December 2023) and will be renewed annually, subject to available funding.

- Under the guidance of the PI, is responsible for developing study designs and work plans for funded projects
- Responsible for coordinating camera trap data collection, including:
- Uploading, cleaning, and organizing camera trap data
- Processing data for analysis
- Analyzing camera trap data pursuant to project objectives
- Coordinate image processing with student assistants
- Manage remote camera database for project partner use
- Develop summary report for project partners, including statistical interpretations
- Work with project PI and partners on scientific publications using project data
- Deploy and check camera traps at various locations associated with wildlife crossing structures along US Highway 97, US Highway 20, and other roadways as assigned.
- Lead and/or facilitate collaborative meetings with federal and state agency partners and serve as the primary point of contact for HERS Lab inquiries focused on wildlife connectivity and movement.
- Respond to federal and state agency requests for camera trap checks and image processing beyond scheduled maintenance.
- Serve on Wildlife Passage Initiative committees as a representative of the HERS Lab and offer suggestions and recommendations based on project findings.
Two years of research experience independently gathering, compiling, and analyzing data using statistical methods (inferential, multivariate analysis, etc.); using statistical software packages to manipulate the data; and preparing narrative or statistical reports and college-level course in statistics (at least six quarter hours); OR An equivalent combination of training and experience. Transcripts must be submitted for all required and/or related courses. Please highlight the statistical courses.NOTE: Some agencies may require experience in using trends (such as social, economical, industrial, etc.).
What You Will Need- A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity
- Bachelors degree in botany, biology, wildlife science or related field
- M.Sc in wildlife science or related field.
- Minimum of two years experience designing and implementing camera trapping studies, particularly focused on wildlife crossing structure monitoring.
- Demonstrated ability to identify common ungulate species in camera images, including age class and sex.
- Demonstrated experience developing summary reports for agencies
- Demonstrated experience with multi-agency collaborative project management.
- Proficiency with GIS.
- Proficiency with data analysis techniques.
- Proficiency with data management and data query techniques and associated software (R, Python, etc)
