JobSummary: As a Regional HR Director you are a key resource for a myriad of HR related activities, supporting the Regional Director and Area Manager in promoting and maintaining a positive work environment for the bookselling teams. You provide expertise and support on all employee relations issues through the eyes of being a bookseller advocate. You work closely with the Area Manager on talent retention through data and information to advise on best practices at both the regional and company level-identifying gaps where talent solves the issues. You are a liaison with corporate partners to develop robust and sustainable programs necessary for talent development that benefit the company. An employee in this position can expect an annual starting rate between $130,000 and $150,000, depending on experience, seniority, geographic locations, and other factors permitted by law.

WhatYouDo:
  • Provide expert counsel on all employee relation situations, guiding field leaders on decisions for resolution and ensuring consistency and fairness in resulting actions.
  • Support field leaders on succession planning to ensure viable talent across the region proactively for future roles and positions.
  • Focus on region and company development opportunities, leveraging partnerships with peer Regional HR Directors to make viable recommendations on programs to support succession planning to achieve the best-run bookstores.
  • Support field leadership with talent assessment and succession planning, ensuring that booksellers are benefiting from continuous development and feedback/review processes, making recommendations on continuous improvement.
  • Prioritize in-person store visits, meeting with booksellers to ensure they feel supported and heard.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of people initiatives and approaches and roll up ideas to senior management.
  • Conduct interviews for Area Manager and Store Manager openings and work with the leadership team to ensure a pipeline of internal talent.
  • Collaborate with HR partners to develop the appropriate sourcing strategies needed for hard to fill/remote store locations.
Knowledge&Experience:
  • Role is based on the West Coast, supporting CA, WA, OR, etc.
  • Possesses sound understanding of all HR processes and has 8-10 years of experience in HR management roles.
  • Retail experience preferred.
  • Makes thoughtful and correct decisions and is able to influence others.
  • Communicates effectively and comfortably, building collaborative working relationships across all levels of the business.
  • Can understand and empathize with people.
